Job Description

Tri-State is a Denver based progressive and rapidly growing non-profit consumer owned wholesale supplier of electric power to forty-four distribution cooperatives in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and New Mexico.  With over 1100 employees, Tri-State operates and maintains fossil fuel power plants with owned coal-fired capacity of 1826 megawatts, gas turbines with 526 megawatts of capacity, and over 5000 miles of high voltage transmission lines.

 

 

Responsible for the electrical engineering related analysis and design required for additions or modifications of the electrical system and support facilities; the coordination of other functional areas involved in completing projects; providing technical leadership and support and developing design standards.

 

Duties listed below are for an Engineer IV.  Engineer II through III duties are similar but have less overall responsibility and accountability and range to entry level.)

           

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (power option preferred).

 

  • Engineer IV Eight (8) years experience in electrical power utility design or related field.

 

  • Engineer III Five (5) years experience in electrical power utility design or related field.

 

  • Engineer II Two and one half (2 1/2) years experience in electrical power utility design or related field.

 

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado, Wyoming or Nebraska desired. 

 

  • Experience and knowledge of transmission and distribution substation physical layout, electrical equipment, grounding, relay/control design, auxiliary systems, start-up and operation.

 

  • Working knowledge of electrical design considerations, operation and maintenance of transmission lines, power generation facilities and support facilities.

 

  • Working knowledge of government regulations affecting electric utilities.

 

  • Willingness to travel as required. (Possession of valid driver's license or ability to obtain).
