The Company is seeking an Operations Superintendent at the Clifty Creek Station in Madison, Indiana.   Below is a summary of responsibilities and requirements of the position.   All individuals interested in applying for the position should submit applications via the American Electric Power website at: http://www.aep.com under the Careers selection tab.

Position Summary:   

Operations Superintendent will report to the Plant Manager. Manage daily plant operations and associated equipment and processes in an efficient, safe, and reliable manner.

Principal Accountabilities:

Provides and demonstrates, through actions, a clear and compelling vision of the plant’s role that is aligned with leadership in the areas of people, safety, environmental stewardship, reliability, and cost control.

Provides strategic direction and ensures goals are communicated, understood, and translated into measurable performance improvements.

Takes the lead role in managing the plant operation of all systems in a manner that assures the plant asset value is not compromised and component reliability is maintained at all times.   

Maintains and continuously improves operating practices, procedures, and emergency response plans.

Champions environmental compliance in all aspects of plant operation.   

Assures that all activities are performed in a manner that proactively avoids environmental excursions.
  
Demonstrates financial acumen, leads change, displays knowledge of global energy business, and leverages technology for competitive advantage.

Works closely with all plant staff members in a manner that encourages teamwork and accountability to promptly address any deficiencies in operation.   Serves as a positive role model for all personnel to build mutual respect.   

Demonstrates commitment to the continuous education of personnel through on-the-job and other training to help employees achieve their full potential.

Demonstrates commitment to building strong teams within operations and among all areas of the Clifty Creek Station through coaching, collaborating, and fostering fact-based root cause analysis.

Formulates and recommends policies, practices, procedures and programs designed to achieve long- and short-range plant and corporate objectives within the areas described above and implement and administer consistent with the Company’s mission, vision, and values.   

Participates at the management level in developing long- and short-range plans for maintenance, capital improvements, availability and staffing. Participates in the development of plant O&M and capital forecasting and tracking and controlling expenditures to meet approved budgets.

Provides excellent customer service for the System Operations dispatch organization through building relationships and frequent communication.

Supervises the team(s) in the operation of plant activities to ensure compliance with all appropriate local, state and federal environmental control regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Act and other applicable laws and regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of power plant experience or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership position at a large-scale steam power plant.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of a fossil plant preferred.
Strong skills in written and oral communication, conflict management, and problem solving.
Team player that builds mutual respect.
Strong facilitator of continuous improvement through effective leadership.
Four-year degree in a technical discipline preferred.
Capable of inspiring teams to excel in their jobs while maintaining excellent safety records.

Salary Information:   

$92,436 Minimum   -   $110,928 Midpoint (Annual)

Required Travel: up to 5%
