Job Description
Position Summary Lead a group of approximately 8-9 MCP employees to accumulate, process and analyze information necessary to account for PPL Supply’s Power activities (including derivative and non-derivative, physical and financial, energy and energy-related transactions.) This position is responsible for all Realized and Unrealized accounting for Power activities (including derivative transactions, ISO markets, renewable energy credits, bi-lateral transactions, western markets and reserves) in accordance with technical accounting guidance included in FAS 133, FAS 157, FAS 161, FAS 13, EITF 02-3, EITF 03-11, EITF 91-6 and EITF 01-8.

Participate in the development, installation, and maintenance of complex finance and accounting systems. Direct and supervise assigned personnel to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient completion of required tasks. Develop and prepare various corporate and affiliated Company financial and accounting reports. Provide technical guidance and direction to other PPL employees in support of producing high quality, timely, and cost-effective solutions to complex accounting problems. Coordinates efforts to develop functional strategies for derivative accounting, works with the Front and Middle office of the trade floor in getting new hedge strategies approved and implemented. Evaluate major power related contract drafts for FAS 133 ramifications and other accounting issues. Monitor and maintain effective controls for Eastern and Western Power related activities. Assist in the review of journal entries and financial statement analysis.

Ensure all PPL EnergyPlus energy transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with all applicable regulations and accounting pronouncements. Ancipates internal and external business and regulatory requirements and recommends and executes appropriate business response. Provide guidance in development of procedures and policies that contain appropriate internal controls. Prepares formal whitepapers to document and evaluate issues or new business strategies; including development of recommendations. Certify compliance with internal controls, policies, and federal and state laws, rules, and regulations in all applicable markets. Primary Responsibilities 1. Supervise and manage preparation of accounting records and reports, filing of financial and statistical reports in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and agreements.
2. Research and analyze complex financial, tax, and accounting issues and recommend courses of action. Provide front office personnel with expertise on financial matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of accounting and financial theory and principles.
3. Participate in the development and maintenance of accounting and management information systems and processes, and suggest improvements to systems and processes.
4. Provide guidance in development and implementation of procedures and policies that contain appropriate internal controls.
5. Supervise, train, and develop accounting personnel to assure a competent and effective staff.
6. Prepare and coordinate variance analyses for realized and unrealized Power results comparing actual vs budget and actual vs. prior periods in support of SEC reporting requirements.
7. Maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers of EnergyPlus and the Financial Department by maintaining a strong customer focus. Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications 1. Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in Accounting or Business
2. A combination of 6+ years in public and/or private accounting, including a minimum of five years in the energy industry.
3. Knowledge of SFAS 13, 133, 149, 157, FAS 161, and related DIG and EITF issues
4. Knowledge of technical accounting, as well as various reporting, requirements (SEC requirements, EITF 02-03, EITF 03-11, e.g.) Preferred Qualifications 1. MBA Preferred
2. Knowledge of exchange and OTC traded futures, options, swaps, and other derivative transactions for electricity, and other “products” traded by PPL (capacity, renewable energy credits, congestion credits, etc.).
3. Knowledge of energy markets in which PPL operates (PJM, NEPOOL, MISO, NYISO, etc.) and the differences in market rules and products that exist within these markets
