Job Summary Plans, schedules, coordinates and performs I & C engineering work for the analysis, specification, design, development, installation, test, maintenance, and repair of real time process monitoring/control computer systems, including digital control systems, and related technical computer software applications for power generating stations. Work assignments may include the development and implementation of interfaces, including custom interfaces, with existing plant process systems and equipment. Performs work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and application of engineering techniques, procedures, and standards, but which may include a variety of conflicting requirements or constraints and difficult coordination requirements. Must be able to interpret, adapt and apply software quality assurance requirements and engineering standards to situations which are not straight forward and for which little procedural guidance is available. May function as technical project lead for less complex software systems as assigned including coordinating the work of engineers, systems analysts, programmer analysts, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments. Supervision Received Independently performs assignments with general instructions as to objective, scope, schedule, and expected results. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems. Skills and Proficiencies Demonstrated proficiency in the following as applied to real time computer system and related technical/scientific applications: System specification and design; Software code management/configuration control; System configuration and integration; Software quality assurance; System development and maintenance; Software/system documentation (including preparation); System analysis and troubleshooting; Hardware installation, test, and maintenance; System testing (test case development); Computer system networks; System installation; Equipment interface specification, development, debug. Demonstrated proficiency in the following typically used in real time computer systems and related technical applications in power generating stations: Programming languages and operating system software; Software tools used for software development and code management; System hardware and its capabilities; Microprocessor based systems/Intelligent (smart) systems. Minimum Eligibility Factors -B.S. Degree in electrical, mechanical, nuclear or chemical engineering from an accredited curriculum. -Several years of professional experience in the area of process control with several years experience with process control of electric generation equipment. Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing such as software documentation, procedures and technical reports. Demonstrated working-level proficiency in the skills and proficiencies listed above. Professional engineering license and membership in a professional engineering society is desirable. Must have demonstrated proficiency in electrical, mechanical, nuclear or chemical engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan (EGPP) or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience. Must be able and willing to assume "on-call" rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability, and Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing project assignments.
