The Deckhand, under the direction of the Mate or Second Mate, is responsible for making up and stripping tow, locking, painting and cleaning. Must properly rig tow and secure to the boat using correct rigging and deck equipment; handle lines, rigging and barges while locking, breaking and recoupling tow. Secure barges or boat to mooring facilities or bank, using proper rigging and deck equipment. Ride, as assigned, remaining alert to the situation and communicating information to the pilot house. Inspect and maintain barges, to include checking for leaks, tightening rigging, sweeping barge decks, pumping, etc. Clean and hose down decks, chip and paint deck surfaces, store and load equipment properly; clean pilot house, lounges, bathrooms, galley, hallways and guest rooms. Maintain assigned sleeping quarters in clean and orderly manner. Perform duties in accordance with the Company's Responsible Carrir Program, safety rules, operating regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Requirements Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must have towboat experience on deck and/or deckhand training. Must have the physical capability to perform any and all duties required of this position.
