Xcel Energy will recruit at the following event for this opening (NDSU Career Fair on February 10). Applicants' resumes received during this event will be the primary candidate pool considered for interview selection.

Position Summary:

Xcel Energy is offering a summer 2010 engineering/construction management intern position that involves construction monitoring and oversight during construction of a 44-acre scrubber solids pond located in Becker, MN. This state-of-the-art pond facility is used for permanent disposal of ash generated from the nearby power plant that burns coal to produce electricity. This position will assist Xcel Energy project managers with on-site quality assurance/quality control of pond embankment and liner system construction by monitoring and reporting on contractor work activities. This position will also assist the Project Team with preparation of final construction certification documents to be submitted to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited engineering or construction management program and have progressed at least through the sophomore year by June 2010. Course work in civil engineering and/or construction management is desired. Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in Construction Engineering or Construction Management programs, or in the 'Construction Emphasis' of Civil Engineering programs. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and competent in the use of Microsoft Office software. Must be able to work safely with in a construction zone (industrial activities, noise, and heavy equipment traffic). Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to the Becker, MN work-site. Position may require working outdoors during adverse weather conditions. 50-hours per week with extended hours, including Saturdays, if needed to support project schedules. Successful candidate must pass a pre-hire Drug & Alcohol screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
