AREVA Renewable AREVA is strongly committed to renewable as part of its strategy to provide its customers with innovative, environmentally friendly sources of energy. The Renewable Energies business unit was formed at the end of 2006 to: • broaden the group's offering in technologies for CO2-free energy production and in particular to offer decentralized energy supply; • become a significant player in wind power and bioenergies by participating in their rapid industrial development; and • develop hydrogen energy and bring fuel cell solutions into commercial production. Our operations cover three fields: wind energy, bioenergies and hydrogen energy. Wind power We are developing high power turbines that convert the wind's motive power into electricity. In October 2007, we acquired a 51% stake in Multibrid, a German manufacturer of offshore wind turbines. Bioenergies We supply turnkey biomass and biogas power plants that convert organic materials of plant and animal origin into energy. In January 2008, we acquired 70% of Koblitz, a Brazilian firm that supplies power plants fueled with sugarcane biogass and small hydroelectric plants. Hydrogen energy Through our subsidiary Helion, we offer solutions for producing hydrogen by water electrolysis and for generating electricity with fuel cells. The fuel cell combines hydrogen and oxygen via a membrane, simultaneously creating water, heat and electricity. Reverse process is used in electrolysis. AREVA GROUP All over the world, AREVA provides its customers with solutions for carbon-free power generation and electricity transmission. With its knowledge and expertise in these fields, the group has a leading role to play in meeting the world's energy needs.
