Job Description

Perform semi-skilled manual work, maintenance and operating duties of a minor or routine nature in connection with power plant operation, as assigned.

Students will be notified when they can apply online at AEP.com.

Student applicants will be interviewed by plant staff for selection. Students must have completed two of the four PPT courses offered.

Salary = $15.00/hour.
  
Paid holiday time, if work session includes a holiday.   AEP observes 9 holidays per calendar year:   New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Eve and Day.

Overtime pay applicable when students have worked in excess of 80 hours during a two-week work period. Prior management approval required.

Not paid for sick time, vacation or personal days, but may be taken with supervisor’s approval.   May make up time using flex-time.

No health benefits.

Eligible to contribute to AEP’s retirement savings plan.   You may begin participating on your first day of employment.   AEP contributes 75 cents for every dollar of the first 6% of eligible compensation you contribute, and you are always 100% vested in the value of your and AEP contributions.
  
12 hour rotating shift, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. – 80 hours in two weeks. Paid bi-weekly on Fridays.

Work attire is jeans or workpants and sleeved shirt.   Coveralls are available. Steel toed work boots are required. All other personal protection equipment is provided.

Pre-employment physical including drug test required.

Retention after graduation is not guaranteed.   Placement depends on the company’s needs, the student’s performance on assignments and academic achievement. If placed, service performed on an intern basis will be considered in establishing vacation and retirement entitlement.

Minimum Requirements

Must be enrolled in a two year college having completed at least one semester of the Power Plant Technology or equivalent program.

Must be able to learn the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work.

Must be able to learn the tools and equipment and their use as required in the work.

Must have demonstrated the ability to physically and mentally perform work in all areas and heights required.

Must be able to understand the care and attention required for the safe and efficient operation of equipment in the Energy Production Department.

Must possess the appropriate State driver’s license.
