Martin Drake Power Plant at Colorado Springs Utilities is embarking on new and innovation ways to generate clean and cost effective energy in the fossil fuel power plant environment. We are looking for your engineering knowledge and enthusiasm to support this effort.
Significant duties include:
- Providing professional engineering services for large electric generating fossil fuel boilers and associated equipment to include pulverizers and fans
- Performing boiler inspections
- Managing complex engineering projects and outage contracts
- Preparing and reviewing contracts and specifications
- Providing asset management and engineering assessment, and identifying areas of improvement
- Preparing information and reports
- Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace
Therefore Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities we seek include:
Knowledge of:
- Operation, maintenance and repair outage planning of fossil fuel boilers
- Operation and maintenance of power plant equipment, including pulverizers, fans, pumps, burners, piping systems and similar mechanical equipment
- Performance testing and equipment evaluation
- Welding, weld procedures, welding inspection and code requirements for fossil fuel boilers
- Boiler combustion, including boiler and pulverizer operation, boiler tuning and boiler testing
- Industry standards for environmental regulations
- Equipment inspection and engineering assessment
Skilled in:
- Evaluating, monitoring, directing and managing outside contractors, consultants and vendors
- Engineering project management, including economic evaluation, schedule and time milestones
- Preparing scopes of work, contracts and specifications
- Providing structural engineering design
- Complex problem solving
- Complex engineering analysis
- Troubleshooting techniques
- Welding procedures and inspections
- Determining areas of improvement or greater efficiency for reliability, performance and operations and maintenance processes
- Interpreting and applying engineering principles
Education: People in this occupation will have a completed bachelor's degree in engineering in a relevant discipline. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) preferred.
Experience: Most people in this occupation would have seven or more years of professional level engineering experience. Engineering experience in electric power generation preferred. Valid Colorado Driver’s License, or ability to obtain may be required.
