Job Description

Summary


This position provides financial forecasts for the regulated utilities. These forecasts include income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, jurisdictional earnings and regulatory earnings. This position also creates financial models under the direction of the manager or consultant. This position will also provide some technical support to the business area finance groups and on issues relating to revenue forecasting, utility rate design, cost of service studies, debt management and capital projects.


Essential Responsibilities


Complete complex financial modeling of the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, jurisdictional earnings and regulatory earnings for the specified regulated utility for both the short and long-term horizons ensuring all assumptions are consistent with those approved by the assumptions committee. Emphasis will also be placed on the forecasting of cost of service, revenue requirements and rate making formulas.

  • Work in conjunction with the Energy Marketing, Energy Forecasting and Regulatory areas to complete the revenue and cost of sales forecast for up to a five-year period for the specified regulated utility. Coordinate the updates of information and review results of the inputs to ensure reasonableness.
  • Work in conjunction with the Finance, Tax, Capital Asset Accounting and the business area finance groups to complete the financing, tax and capital expenditure related forecasts. Coordinate the updates of information and review results of the inputs to ensure reasonableness.
  • Complete system interfaces between the Corporate Financial Model and the General Ledger, PowerPlant and ALS. Maintain mappings and other base data in the Corporate Financial Model to ensure successful interfaces with the other systems and the appropriate accounting and rate treatment in the Corporate Financial Model.
  • Complete analysis to ensure expected results are calculated by the Corporate Financial Model using knowledge of GAAP, FERC, cost of service, revenue requirements, rate making formulas and energy costs recovery mechanisms. Also includes working with regulatory, general accounting, manager and principal analyst to validate accounting treatment for any new accounting rules or recovery mechanisms.
  • Work with Business Area management to complete what-if modeling and analysis using changing assumptions and ensuring all assumptions are documented. Concisely communicate and present the results and recommendations to management.
  • Complete special projects as needed such as rate case support, data request responses, ROI analysis and jurisdictional cost recovery analyses. Work with the manager and principal analyst to develop knowledge and expertise in modeling and reporting.
Required for Sr. Financial Analyst Level
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 5 years finance or accounting related experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and FERC as well as experience with all financial statements

Required for Consultant Level

  • Bachelor's degree in either Finance
  • 8 years relevant experience at least 2 years of financial modeling experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and FERC as well as experience with all financial statements



Preferred

  • Advanced degree or certification (MBA, CPA, CMA, etc.)
  • Financial modeling experience
  • Previous utility experience
