The successful candidate will be placed in this job family based on their qualifications. Summary Provides legal counsel to Xcel Energy Inc. and its subsidiaries, and manages outside counsel. This attorney will be responsible for providing advice and counsel on matters relating to labor relations and employment matters of all types. Candidate must be experienced in the application/interpretation of federal and state statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to traditional labor law as well as employment law, including NLRA, LMRA, Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, etc. This attorney will also be responsible for managing outside counsel when retained to handle arbitrations and employment litigation. Experience in all of these areas is required. The position includes support of our nuclear facilities in regard to employment matters and proceedings, and experience in that area is preferred.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provides counsel to Xcel Energy Inc. or its subsidiaries, management on legal, business and strategic issues for required subject matter.
- Prepares or reviews contracts, agreements and other documents.
- Provide opinions on policy questions and legal implications of Xcel Energy operations.
- Represents Xcel Energy in courts, regulatory agencies and other adjudicatory or adversarial proceedings.
Required for Sr. Attorney
- J.D. degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school
- Must be licensed to practice in the state in which the position in located
- 3 years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or experience in corporate or commercial setting providing equivalent knowledge
- Experience in the application/interpretation of federal and state statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to traditional labor law as well as employment law
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
Required for Assistant General Counsel - J.D. degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school
- Must be licensed to practice in the state in which the position in located
- 8 years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or experience in corporate or commercial setting providing equivalent knowledge
- Experience in the application/interpretation of federal and state statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to traditional labor law as well as employment law
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
