Summary


Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles to perform planning activities to produce comprehensive economical and reliable electric system transmission plans. May represent company in coordinating councils, joint planning, and regulatory activities.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Determine the required transmission facilities using electric system models for powerflow and stability analysis. Develops and coordinates long term plans to ensure system reliability and efficiency. Design and develop equipment, test materials, prepare specifications, study processes, and prepare reports in the area of transmission planning.
  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in internal and external conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work to support corporate objectives and meet customer needs.
  • Prepares written and oral recommendations to be presented to management levels of Planning, Engineering, Operations and others. Prepare and present testimonies in regulatory and legal proceedings.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and current industry practices. Represent Company in regional organizations.
  • Accountable for achievement of goals relative to project completion, budgets, safety, facility performance, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Interface with and assists contractors or consultants in preparation of power system studies. Supervise or coordinate work of drafters, technicians and others who assist on specific assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required
Education must be from an ABET accredited curriculum. Minimum Master's in EE (Power Specialty preferred) or Bachelor's in EE (Power Specialty preferred) with 2 yrs experience required. Experience required in Transmission Planning, Transmission Operations, or Distribution planning, Transmission Planning experience preferred. Demonstrates advanced technical skills and knowledge in the area of bulk/regional transmission planning. Demonstrates an understanding of federal/regional/local/planning guidelines including FERC/NERC/state utility commissions and municipal regulations.
