Job Description
PSEG has a limited number of "Temporary Meter Reader" positions working at various New Jersey locations. This is a temporary position with dates of employment beginning in April through September 2010. The meter reader performs field work in connection with reading gas, electric and water meters and other related work. Duties include: safely reading and recording meter readings at customers’ premises; recording reasons for no-readings and recording any unusual conditions; resetting and resealing demand meters and meter enclosures as directed; reporting unusual and unsafe conditions to supervision in accordance with established procedures and reporting any emergency conditions immediately to supervision. Required: Must have average poise and tact, as indicated by the ability to handle routine customer contacts in a pleasant and courteous manner. Must be neat and accurate in work. Must have and maintain in good operating condition a motor vehicle for use in performing assigned duties. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have a safe driving record. Must have satisfactorily passed the Meter Reader Test. Desired: Experience with reading meters. Ability to read maps.
