Job Description
  Overview:

Operates various types of equipment including, but not limited to, fuel unloading and conveying equipment including coal car dumpers, locomotives, barge unloaders, stacker/reclaimer, bulldozers, conveyor belts and associated auxiliary equipment.



Responsibilities:
  • Inspects, maintains, and operates various type of heavy equipment including fuel unloading and conveying equipment, thawing equipment, car dumpers, tractors, dump trucks, diesel-electric locomotives, bulldozers, cranes, forklifts, barge unloaders, ash system, conveyor belts/system, coal breaker, tripper, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Operates, inspects and maintains controls, valves, and flyash equipment used to unload flyash, furnace bottom ash and slag from storage bins, into trucks
  • Operates track switches to derrick coal cars to proper track, couples/uncouples coal cars, and re-rails de-railed
  • Inspects, repairs, maintains and lubricates fuel handling equipment, coalbunkers, breakers, equipment and troubleshoots system problems
  • Maintains, repairs and replaces component parts of fuel handling equipment
  • Operates or maintains various hand/power driven, hydraulic tools, machinery and welding
  • Perform plate welding on both carbon and stainless steel and maintains welding certification
  • Performs administrative functions in support of work unit such as timekeeping, materials support, cost monitoring, and scheduling and quality control/quality assurance
  • Uses plant computer systems to monitor work backlog and input work order data
  • Performs data collection and maintain proper logs
  • Performs emergency response activities as required
  • Performs general housekeeping functions as necessary
  • Operates Company vehicles and equipment


  • Qualifications:
    • Good oral and written communication skills required.
    • Must have basic computer skills
    • Five to ten years experience operating heavy equipment
    • High School Graduate or GED
    • Achieve a successful score on the Power Plant Maintenance (MASS) aptitude test
    • Ability to work rotating shiftwork, holidays, weekends and overtime
    • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
    • Ability to interpret and apply instructions, specifications, blueprints, and procedures
    • Possess a valid jurisdictional driver's license
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and time management skills
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet stringent deadlines
    • Ability to perform work both indoors and outdoors, requiring continuous physical activity, sometimes of a strenuous and stressful nature
    • Ability to work in enclosed vessels or confined spaces
    • Ability to use various hand/power driven and hydraulic tools and machinery
    • Ability to use arms, legs, feet, and hands in a fully coordinated manner
    • Ability to climb ladders, bend, twist, kneel, crawl, pull/push and lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk and squat for extended periods of time
    • Ability to work on or around energized electrical equipment
    • Ability to work at elevated heights including scaffolding
    • Ability to work alone in remote areas
    • Ability to work in areas with limited lighting
    • Ability to work in extreme temperatures ranging from very cold to very hot
    • Possess good hearing and vision
    • Ability to work in areas that may be noisy and dirty
    • Ability to wear a respirator and other job related personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • Ability to meet (on an annual basis) appropriate physical evaluations identified by
    • Mirant as prerequisites to performing certain task and training activities

    Preferred:

    • Experience moving bulk materials by conveyor, machine shop, computer skills
