Job Description

 

Equipment Specialist or Engineering Technologist or Engineer  

This job will be posted until 40 applications are received and then the job posting will be removed.  

One position will be filled utilizing one of the job titles mentioned above.  The position title, salary of position and grade level will be based on the qualifications, skills, and experience of the applicant.   The entry level job description and minimum salary are listed below for each position.  

Equipment Specialist

(Exempt Salary Grade 11 or 13)

Minimum Salary $55,547

 

Principal Responsibilities:

Responsible for specialized work involved in planning, testing, receiving, assembling, adjustment and repair of Station equipment such as: power transformers, reactors, current transformers, switches, circuit breakers, circuit switchers, potential devices, regulators, LTC’s,  power cables, oil and all associated accessories.   Operate Baron Vacuum Oil Processing Equipment, Dillo Vacuum & SF6 Gas Recovery Cart, and perform Infrared Scanning of Station equipment, 80% field work and 20% office work.   Candidate must be able to work in confined spaces to perform internal inspection of power transformers and circuit breakers.  

  Principal Accountabilities: 

1.  Perform routine and emergency tests on Station electrical equipment as required.

  2.  Prepare and maintain Station electrical equipment records.

  3.  Develop and assist with presentations in Centralized Station Mechanic Training Schools.

  4.  Coordinate bidding contracts and monitor performance of contractors.

  5.  Investigate failures or malfunctions of electrical equipment, make reports to proper parties, and recommend corrective action as required.

  6.  Check all details of installation and release electrical equipment for operation.

7.       Perform or direct modernization and rebuilding of Station electrical equipment.       

  Minimum RequirementsAssociate degree in electrical engineering or technology, or equivalent education by outside study and/or work experience. Work experience should include 7  years in Station related activities. A good working knowledge of PCs and various types of test  equipment is required.

   

Engineering Technologist

(Exempt Salary Grade 7, 9, 11 or 14)

Minimum Salary $47,156

  In addition to the principle responsibilities & principle accountabilities listed for the Equipment Specialist position above, the Engineering Technologist position would require all of those attributes and the requirements which follow:

  Each position in the Engineering Technologist job family is responsible to the assigned supervisor to perform work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology knowledge in a safe, cost-effective and efficient way.  Engineering technologist responsibilities and job scope are specific to the organizational unit (e.g. division, section, region, district, etc.) and, when prepared by the business unit, are given on an addendum to this position description.  The addendum must be prepared by each organizational unit.

  1.  Communication and interpersonal skills:  communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing; assists in the preparation of technical reports and papers; listens to and understands instructions, and requests clarification as required; demonstrates the ability to be a team player; relates to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner.

  2.  Decision making and business awareness characteristics:  develops decision-making skills under guidance of higher level employees; develops an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the local organizational unit.

  3.  Technical proficiency:  possesses technical knowledge acquired from a Bachelor’s Degree in an ABET accredited engineering technology program; gains familiarity with standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the area of assignment; gains familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems, and business processes; assists higher level employees in handling well defined portions of routine problems.

 4 .  Leadership and guidance:  performs work activities as assigned and coached by higher level employees; demonstrates ability to work with others in both supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.

  5.  Planning and organization ability:  assists with providing input to annual budget, capital forecasts, five-year plan, and improvement requisitions; participates in planning meetings covering scheduling, operations, and maintenance of equipment; assists in the preparation of basic cost estimates using established guidelines. 

  6.       Problem solving and initiative:  applies technical knowledge in resolving basic problems encountered in assigned work; uses initiative in looking for opportunities to increase job knowledge/technical skills.

Accountable for making sound technical decisions and recommendations but has no authority to commit Company assets or approve expenditures. 

Depending upon assignment, position may entail some travel and exposure to situations which require the knowledge, understanding and adherence to applicable safety procedures.

  Assignments may require extended hours to accomplish assigned tasks to meet requirements and schedules.     

  Minimum Requirements: Bachelors degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

    

  Engineer

(Exempt Salary Grade 8, 11, 14 or 18)

Minimum Salary $49,108

  In addition to the principle responsibilities & principle accountabilities listed for the Equipment Specialist Position Above, the Engineer position would require all of those attributes and the requirements which follow:

  Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.  Engineering responsibilities and job scope are specific to the organizational unit (e.g. division, section, plant, region, district, etc.) and, when prepared by the business unit, are given on an addendum to this position description.  The addendum must be prepared by each organizational unit.

  1.  Decision making:  develops decision-making skills under guidance of higher-level employees.

  2.  Business awareness characteristics:  develops an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the local organizational unit.

  3.  Problem solving and initiative:  applies basic techniques to perform analysis associated with the resolution of routine technical problems; uses initiative in looking for opportunities and presenting new ideas and new approaches.

  4.  Communication skills:  communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing; assists in the preparation of technical reports and papers; listens to and understands instructions, and requests clarification as required.

  5.  Interpersonal skills:  demonstrates the ability to be a team player; relates to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner; sees differences in people as an opportunity.

  6.  Technical expertise:  possesses technical knowledge acquired from a Bachelors level engineering degree program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); gains familiarity with standards, codes and regulations relevant to the area of assignment; gains familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems and business processes; assists higher level engineers in handling well defined portions of routine problems or analysis.

  7.  Leadership and guidance:  performs work activities as assigned and coached by higher level employees; demonstrates ability to work with others in both supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary; demonstrates willingness and capabilities to assume leadership roles.

  8.  Planning and organization ability:  prepares basic cost estimates using established standards; develops understanding of work flow of routine engineering projects; accomplishes work according to plan and schedule established by higher level employees.

 

Minimum Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).  [Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) independently evaluated and found to be equivalent to an engineering degree awarded by a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S.] 

  Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
