Job Description
We are filling two positions: one Business Technology Executive for Transmission and Distribution and one Business Technology Executive for Energy Supply and Trading
Summary:
Serves as the primary Business System's liaison between business unit and operating company senior executives. Ensures effective management of expectations for business unit demand and IT service delivery at the executive level. Drives overall technology planning efforts within assigned business unit(BU) or operating company while ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide strategic objectives and standards. Manages capital technology portfolio within assigned business unit while balancing demand from an enterprise perspective to manage the overall technology portfolio to stated objectives. Responsible for an annual technology capital budget greater than $25M and an annual BU O&M budget greater than $10M. Serves as the coordination point for all technology services within assigned BU or operating company. Will have ongoing leadership responsibility for significant initiatives that extend beyond assigned business area.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Customer Relationship Management - Develops and sustains strong relationships with business unit and operating company management personnel (senior executives and direct reports), with minimal direction and support needed from sponsoring VP. Participates in BU and operating company management activities. Manages customer (internal) expectations and continually drives significant improvements in customer satisfaction. Drives resolution of key customer concerns quickly and effectively. Serves as the primary point of contact for BU and operating company management personnel and coordinates communication across other Business Systems areas as appropriate. Identifies areas in which improved communication is needed and partners with other areas of Business Systems to implement those changes. Specifically recognized as significant contributor to customer satisfaction by BU and operating company management personnel and Business Systems leadership.
  • Strategy & Planning - Manages business component of technology planning efforts for assigned BU and operating company. Participates in all relevant planning activities. Develops and executes a technology plan for assigned BU and operating company and assists peers in developing and executing effective technology plans across the enterprise. Ensures alignment between technology strategy, standards and BU and operating company specific efforts. Develops estimates for capital technology projects. Leverages internal and external networks at the senior management or executive level (vendors, other technology professionals, etc.) to continually identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Portfolio Management - Assists Business Systems leadership in defining, refining and applying portfolio prioritization criteria from an enterprise perspective. Develops and maintains rolling 3-year technology financial plan (capital and expense) for assigned BU and operating company consistent with enterprise-wide strategic objectives. Closely monitors technology financial results within assigned BU and operating company; identifies gaps, develops, and implements gap closure plans. Calculates and monitors project ROI and shifts priorities accordingly. Responsible to identify and drive capital investments that results in significant value being added to BU and operating company income statements. This includes building solid business cases and managing all projects through the governance process. Analyzes technology demand trends within assigned business unit, operating company, and across the enterprise; drives improvements in allocating discretionary technology dollars to maximize business value; also recommends and helps drive improvements in the customer experience. Coordinates with other BTEs and Business Systems leadership to shift priorities based on changing business goals and budget constraints.
  • Project/Operational Oversight - Serves as executive coordinator for all BU and operating company specific technology programs and projects. Reviews and authorizes all requests for capital projects and funding changes. Provides input into project manager and executive sponsor selection and changes. Participates in project reviews and serves on program and project steering committees as needed; identifies risks and provides effective risk mitigation. Monitors overall technology operations within assigned business unit and addresses issues as needed.
  • Special Projects/Other - Participates on the Business Systems Senior Leadership Team and participates in special assignments as needed. Selected to lead special business unit initiatives by BU or operating company leadership (manager approval required).
  • Regulatory Support - Ensures that current, as well as, potential regulatory implications are factored into technology decision-making. Maintains awareness of regulatory impacts to assigned BU, operating company, and Business Systems (e.g., participates in PUC meetings as needed, reads relevant literature, etc.). Represents Business Systems on response strategy teams and approves responses prior to BSLT or CIO review.
  • Resource/Group Management - Develops and manages a team of business managers providing guidance, leadership and mentoring. Responsible for career development, performance management, and pay determination and communication.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology or related field (6 years related experience may substitute for the degree).
  • 10 years of integrated utility and regulatory business and technology systems experience - general technology operations with data analysis and technical design.
  • Experience identifying and developing end-to-end solutions to address changing business needs.
  • Sound understanding of core business processes, industry trends, technology developments and environments.
  • Solid internal and external network of business and technology professionals at the senior executive level.
  • Exceptional communication, time management and critical thinking abilities preferred.
Preferred Skills (special consideration) for Transmission & Distribution:
  • 5-10 years experience in electric or gas transmission and distribution
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and implementing technology projects bringing value to transmission and/or distribution operations
Preferred Skills (special consideration) for Energy Supply and Trading:
  • 5-10 years experience in energy supply or energy trading
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and implementing technology projects bringing value to energy supply or energy trading operations
