Job Description

We anticipate one or more openings for a 1st step apprentice lineman to be located in Ironwood, Michigan. The base rate of pay for a 1st step apprentice classification is $22.13 an hour.

This position will work as part of an electric line crew operation and perform duties of the lineman classification involving construction, maintenance and emergency repairs of all overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems in Xcel Energy service territory. Will be expected to complete the requirements of the 4 year lineman apprenticeship program as defined by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

This position must comply with the current residency policy in effect at the time of hire. Relocation of the employee's household to the immediate area of the reporting headquarters is required and will be the responsibility of the employee. Must live within 20 miles of the reporting headquarters.

After reaching Journeyman status, successful applicant may be required to fill the position of relief troubleman in the service territory.

- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Technical School Lineman degree is required.
- Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility crews is desired.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home.
- Must be able to communicate effectively; have good teamwork skills and be able to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace.
- Must have a quality work ethic and be committed to optimum customer service.
- Must be able to work additional hours, respond to after hours and weekend call outs.
- A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times.
- Must meet driver qualification requirements as specified in FMCSR Parts 382 and 391 including the possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License Class A.

This job will require the ability to work in an efficient manner while performing the essential responsibilities of the position which may include:
A. Lifting and maneuvering up to 50 lbs.
B. Being able to work at heights up to and above 100 feet.
C. Being able to climb wood poles up to and above 100 feet tall
D. Using shovels, sledge hammers and jack hammers and other similar labor intensive tools
E. Working in confined areas, which includes bending and stooping.
