The position of the Shift Control Operator (SCO) is critical to effectively managing the competitive power market. The SCO will work closely with the Senior Operations Supervisor (SOS) to maximize performance. Duties and responsibilities are as follows: Thorough awareness of Market conditions and Plant equipment capability to make the decisions necessary with guidance from the SOS to maximize operating profit margins. Follow instructions given by the SOS. Perform preventative maintenance tasks. Be responsible under the guidance of the SOS for the gas and steam turbine and generator start-up, base load operation and shutdown. Responsible for following proper safety procedures during operations and maintenance activities. This will include LOTO, Hazardous Work and Hazardous Work permitting. Operate the units as efficiently as possible. Promptly communicate to the SOS the need for equipment repairs Responsible for water sampling and testing to maintain proper plant chemistry control and relay this information to the SOS for review. Responsible for outside logs being taken on all running equipment. Review the operator log-sheets while logs are taken, to communicate the need for corrective action to the SOS. Responsible for accurately and comprehensively documenting plant-operating events. This includes logbook entries, communicating operations and maintenance activities during shift changes and communicating changes in operations procedures to other shifts. Take a pro-active approach during plant and emergency activities, until directions are received from the SOS. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Review and improve plant operation procedures. Maintain communications with the SOS to coordinate plant operations and maintenance activities. Study and train for the position of SOS, and be able and willing to stand in as SOS at the request of the Plant Manager of Operations. Must be willing to work overtime, and be available for emergencies and outage maintenance. Must be willing to work a rotating 12-hour shift.
