Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE
Responsible for operations activities which may or may not require an NRC license.  May be responsible for any of the following:  providing clearance support, switchyard support, system operations support, procedure writing/oversight, and special projects.  This position may be held as a developmental position to allow an individual without an NRC license to obtain the experience and training required to obtain the license.  May also be held by the previously licensed individuals who are unable to maintain NRC license requirements (e.g., medical approval) or personnel who have either equivalent (one year experience or job skills and knowledge that support operational type activities).

Position may be filled at the PG-5 level depending on qualifications and job requirements.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Incumbent may be involved in one or more of the following areas:

1.Participate in special projects and assignments to enhance the performance of the Operations department and implement special programs.
2.Assist the Operations staff to remove and return equipment to service, support surveillances, maintenance and testing.
3.Assist Operations management to oversee special system operations (e.g., amertap).
4.Maintains Operations Procedures per plant standards, TVA policies, programs, and procedures; plant Technical Specifications; and Federal, State, and local regulations.  This includes System Operating (SO), General Operating (GO), Annuciator Response Instruction (ARI), Periodic Instruction (PI), Surveillance Instruction (SI), Abnormal Operating Instruction (AOI), and Emergency Procedures.
5.Prepare, review and revise operations procedures as assigned to provide standardized processes for operations tasks in compliance with programmatic requirements.
6.Assist Operations management in conducting on-the-job training and evaluation for nonlicensed and licensed operators.
7.As assigned by the Operations Manager, obtain plant operating experience and successfully complete licensed operator training to obtain an NRC license.
8.Process PERs for the Operations department ensuring that corrective actions are completed in a timely manner in order to ensure the safe, reliable operation of the plant.
9.Track Operation's action items in the TROI data base to ensure specified action dates are met.
10.Performs investigations as assigned in order to determine the root cause of problems experienced.
11.Work on specific activities as assigned by the Operations Superintendent or Operations Support Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Certification/License)
PG-05:
Incumbent shall have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), and should have a knowledge of the plant's PER process and usage of the TROI data base.  Must have two years of prior nuclear experience, either military or commercial.

PG-06
Education:  High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience:  Four years of power plant experience.  Commercial plant experience is highly desired.

Any individual responsible for the oversight of procedures should have a minimum of four years of experience in preparing procedures for a nuclear facility.  

Maintain requirements for nuclear plant unescorted access.

The Operations Specialist, PG-06, shall hold or have held a SRO license or equivalent.
