Job Description

IMPORTANT: Although this position does not exclude the possibility of performing tasks related to procedures and training, the intent of this position is to be full time assigned to NERC Compliance Program support tasks.

 

NAES Corporation, a leading provider of 3rd party O&M services to the Independent Power Industry, is currently recruiting for the following position:

GENERAL SUMMARY

 

Develop and implement plans, schedules, procedures, tools and processes required to establish and maintain a comprehensive NERC Reliability Compliance Program.  Develop and produce operations, casualty and preventive maintenance procedures for any power plant type through analysis of technical manuals, schematics, control and logic diagrams, and other plant design information.  Plan, develop, and execute plant specific training programs designed to ensure proper performance of operations and maintenance responsibilities and compliance with NERC Reliability Compliance program requirements by plant personnel.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

 

NERC Compliance Support:

 

Develop and implement plans, schedules, procedures, tools and processes required to establish and maintain a comprehensive NERC Reliability Compliance Program for use by NAES-operated plants and other outside customers.

 

Prepare communication documents to promulgate information related to the NERC Reliability Compliance Program to ensure that the plants are knowledgeable of all requirements.

 

Travel to plant sites to assist in the performance of NERC Compliance Assessments, Gap Analyses, compliance program setups, mock audits, audit participation and training of plant personnel.

 

Procedures:

 

Perform detailed analysis of all plant technical data and extract pertinent information for use in procedures development, presenting the information in a manner that promotes a thorough understanding of the material by plant personnel.

 

Formulate and edit all text for plant operations manuals, including step-by-step instructions for operation of equipment, systems, and overall plant functions, with emphasis on technical accuracy and compliance with standard engineering principles and practices.

 

Formulate and edit all text for plant program manuals, including Safety, Maintenance, Training, Reliability Compliance, and Assessment programs.  Assist in the development of spreadsheets, forms and other useful tools to be utilized by the plants in implementing the various O&M programs.

 

Draft operational schematics which promote better understanding of plant systems and the procedures associated with each, using computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) programs.

 

Develop maintenance schedules and procedures so that maintenance personnel can extract actual maintenance requirements from various vendor manuals.

 

Training:

 

Conduct training sessions (traditional classroom face-to-face and in-plant walk downs) which provide plant personnel with a thorough understanding of all plant systems and equipment.

 

Create lesson plans, examinations, and answer keys designed to ensure that the requisite information has been provided for each training session.

 

Schedule and execute training programs which coordinate both manufacturer and company provided training on all plant systems and major components.  Interface with manufacturer representatives regarding schedules and scope of material to be presented and obtain commitments to participate as scheduled.

 

Design, obtain, coordinate, or prepare, as necessary, training aids and materials to be used during each applicable training session.

 

Administer and grade examinations, provide feedback to students, and assist plant manager and other supervisors in preparing inputs for operator qualification progress based on training program participation and performance.

 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

 

Position operates generally by determining own practices and procedures and contributes to the development of new concepts.  Decisions are made within policy constraints.  Informally makes recommendations concerning long-range planning.

 

Job encounters a wide diversity of work situations, which are sometimes complex in nature.  Errors in operating or casualty procedure development could directly impact plant safety, processes, and equipment life.

 

Contacts are normally made with others inside and outside the company, including plant operators and supervisors at all levels of responsibility as well as immediate associates and own supervisor.  Contacts are usually made on own initiative, concerning matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation or approvals.  Acts as representative of North American headquarters during visits to plant sites that involve close interactions with many new company employees.  Acts as liaison between procedures team and on-site project management staff.

 

All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customers' needs are being met.

 

SPECIFIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

 

Thorough knowledge and understanding of safe and acceptable engineering practices and principles.  Ability to analyze large amounts of technical data and interpret such information for day-to-day use by plant operations personnel.  Ability to formulate and communicate thoughts and ideas developed in an engineering context into cogent operational guidance for plant personnel and integrated classroom presentations.  Excellent writing and analytical skills and an ability to communicate information in both formal and informal settings.  Thorough knowledge of English composition principles and technical and non-technical vocabulary required.  Knowledge of computers (IBM compatible) and word processing programs mandatory, with CADD experience desirable.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • Associate degree in engineering or equivalent technical training knowledge and experience desired. 
  • Two to three years practical experience in power plant operations and maintenance. 
  • Formal training in all aspects of power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety. 
  • Two to three years related technical writing and training in a demanding engineering environment. 
  • Experience in the development of technical documents and training materials. 
  • Supervisory skills desired.

 

WORK CONDITIONS

 

Normal working hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday.  Extensive travel may be required to meet client or project requirements.  Work is performed on industrial sites when traveling, requiring protective clothing and equipment.  Extended hours may be required during travel or due to project phasing and project specific requirements.
