Job Summary: Serves as a senior program management consultant in the field of Mechanical system design and fluid flow. Provides authoritative decisions and recommendations on behalf of TVA regarding critical and/or controversial issues related to his/her engineering specialty/field. Consults, negotiates and commits TVA resources, engineering support and professional cooperation with senior management personnel, management-level officers from other companies, and policy-making representatives from regulatory and professional engineering organizations. Is responsible for one or more programs or program components of such magnitude, diversity and scope that their technical performance is of critical importance to TVAN's overall engineering objectives. Primary Responsibilities: º Serves as an industry-recognized leader, expert and technical consultant in the mechanical design of piping systems and fluid flow. º Provide governance and oversight of TVAN design control processes, the maintenance of the design and licensing basis of TVAN nuclear plants, and mechanical systems design. º Represents the interest of TVA on industry committees for regulatory issues, research and the future of the US Nuclear industry with authority to speak for the Agency. º May hold the chairmanship or other high position on these committees. º Maintains and updates computer based analytical tools for designing piping systems and determining fluid conditions in nuclear plant systems. º Participates in the development of long-range planning involving large fiscal expenditures for TVAN facilities. º Is accountable and influential for TVA's interests in millions of industry research dollars. º Provides technical consultation to TVAN, Fossil, Hydro and Transmission. º Understands, develops and provides interpretations of engineering regulations, policies and industry standards and provides the final decision on these matters. º Provides the final decision and technical opinion for production work when the design staff at any TVAN facility needs direction. º Provides overall technical conscience, experience, industry involvement and guidance. º May work as an individual contributor or as a team leader in planning, organizing and supervising the work of specialist level engineers in an intensely specialized field. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: º B.S. degree in Mechanical or Nuclear engineering or equivalent engineering degree. º An advanced degree and professional engineering license are highly desirable. º Minimum of ten years' experience in mechanical design with five years in nuclear work. º Extensive experience in interfacing with other engineering disciplines, knowledge of TVA design and engineering processes, and a broad exposure to major problems/issues with demonstrated ability for their identification and resolution. º Detailed knowledge of the licensing basis for TVA nuclear plants with emphasis on the safety analyses. º Ability to interface with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on technical issues on behalf of TVA. º Individuals at this level must demonstrate a high degree of foresight, the ability to think strategically, and show mature judgment in anticipating and solving complex engineering issues. º Must be able to obtain and maintain requirements for nuclear plant unescorted access.
