NAES Corporation, a leading provider of 3rd party O&M services to the Independent Power Industry, is currently recruiting for the following position: GENERAL SUMMARY The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations and routine maintenance of the plant. The Operations Manager directs the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifies those areas which may need improvement or further development. The Operations Manager assures that plant operating conditions are always kept within optimum limits. Directs supervisory personnel in the performance of their duties and responsibilities in order to maintain safe, reliable and efficient plant operation and to meet system electric load requirements. Ensures that the plant is operating in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, and that NAES policies and procedures are administered and adhered to. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Directs the Operations Team and other supervisory positions in Production in the performance of their duties in order to maintain reliable, safe, and efficient plant operation. Directs the Production work force to achieve desired NAES goals and to meet system load requirements. Directs all plant personnel and activities in the absence of the Plant Manager. Coordinates planned and unplanned outages and required maintenance activities with other power station departments, Traders, and all electric system operations in such a way as to maximize equipment and unit availability and minimize production costs. Analyzes operating results and equipment failures. Improves plant efficiency and performance by developing and implementing new methods to improve plant operation and reduce operating costs. Coordinates all plant environmental activities with the Plant Production, Maintenance, Chemistry and Environmental departments to verify compliance with procedures and permit conditions. Ensure that Production personnel are trained to respond as needed to environmental problems. Coordinates and expedites major equipment repairs with the plant's Maintenance Department to maximize unit availability and plant safety. Works with Shift Supervisors to prepare and coordinate shift worker schedules and assignments. Ensures that the plant's operating work force is properly staffed to provide for reliable, safety and efficient plant operation. Ensures that NAES policies, procedures and plant work rules are administered and adhered to and that the plant is operating in compliance with local, state and federal requirements. Supervises and oversees the Production departments skill improvement, training and safety programs. Ensures that an adequate number of trained personnel are available to maintain continuous and safe plant operation, even under adverse conditions. Prepares employees for greater responsibilities. Issues new operating procedures, as required, and periodically reviews existing operating procedures and issues revision, as deeded necessary, to ensure that they reflect correct and safe operating practices. Other duties as directed by the Plant Manager. Report normal, abnormal or emergency plant conditions to the Plant Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Plant Manager. Provide guidance to the Maintenance Manager relative to equipment conditions and required maintenance activities. Prepare required reports for the owner. Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records. Maintain the plant Operations Manuals and assure that operating policies and procedures are kept up-to-date. Sustain the morale and motivation of operations and maintenance personnel and handle employee concerns as they arise. Assist with the location, screening and hiring of operating personnel. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY The Operations Manager operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints. The Operations Manager encounters new and varied work situations, involving a high degree of complexity. The Operations Manager must ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The Operations Manager must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager, fellow supervisors, and subordinate operation and maintenance personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement. The Operations Manager must ensure duties are performed in such a way as to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio. All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The Operations Manager reports to the Plant Manager, and supervises subordinate operations personnel. The Operations Manager cooperates with the Business Manager, Engineering Manager, Compliance Manager, and Maintenance Manager as needed in the daily operation of the plant. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include: possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
