Job Description

NAES Corporation, a leading provider of 3rd party O&M services to the Independent Power Industry, is currently recruiting for a Plant Accountant for the Logan Generating Plant.  Located in Logan Township, NJ, the plant is a 225 MW pulverized coal-fired cogeneration facility.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Plant Accountant is responsible for the Owner's Accounting functions of the project.  The person holding this position provides support for the Owner's Accounting administration, reporting, and record keeping.  This person will also support business analysis activities as well as other assignments as directed by the Plant Manager.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Accounting

1. Maintain the general ledger and accounting systems, including preparing all necessary journal entries, accruals, inventory entries and reports to comply with closing requirements.

2. Review and analyze monthly budget variance report.

3. Prepare monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.

4. Responsible for revenue and inventory purchase accounting. Verify accuracy of data on daily reports. Record energy sales revenue and inventory purchase expenses on the general ledger.

5. Interface with external auditors for annual financial audit. Prepare required audit work papers.

6. Reconcile project bank accounts, including operating, O&M, and revenue accounts.

7. Record monthly cash activity in the O&M and Revenue accounts.

8. Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation. Reconcile general ledger and detail.

9. Prepare the physical inventory, MP2 and general ledger inventory reconciliations. Audit the processes to ensure the accuracy of inventory accounting.

10. Ensure compliance with established internal, accounting and reporting controls.

11. Prepare and distribute Monthly Management Reports, customer invoices and various allocation reports.

Manage the cash accounts of the Project

Reporting and Budgeting

1. Coordinate preparation of annual operating budgets, forecasts and monthly/quarterly/ annual variance reports.

2. Assist in preparing annual Business Plan.

3. Maintain the financial statements of the Project in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

4. Manage the annual financial audits of the project and the partnership in compliance with the project and credit agreements.

5. Provide financial data and results to General Manager, Project Manager and Corporate office staff as required.

Treasury and Tax

1. Perform treasury function for the project, including review of weekly funding request and preparation of cash forecasts. Coordinate funding and wire requests between the project and Owners. Manage the bank account funding requirements, and prepare required cash compliance schedules.

2. Responsible for project business tax reporting, including property and sales and use tax reporting and payment. File annual personal property tax affidavits.

3. Provide support to tax accountants for preparation of annual income tax returns.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

This position operates from established and well known procedures, performing duties independently under general direction and minimum supervision.  Decisions are made within prescribed operating procedures and guidelines.  The position encounters new and varied work situations, involving a moderate degree of complexity.

The Plant Accountant must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager relative to the Accounting processes, and will be expected to provide suggestions for project improvement.  The Plant Accountant must ensure duties are performed in such a way as to create an optimum cost-benefit ratio. 

All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customers' needs are being met. 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Plant Accountant reports to the Plant Manager and takes direction primarily from the Plant Manager and Finance Manager.  The Plant Accountant will also work closely with the Accounting Assistant.  The Plant Accountant works with other project managers & supervisors as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and project conditions.  "On call" status will periodically be required.  Some work may be performed on industrial site requiring protective clothing and equipment.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program.  This program includes pre/post employment physical examinations and drug screening.  There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent job-related experience.

2. Minimum five years experience in accounting; eight to ten years and industrial/power plant accounting experience preferred.

3. CPA preferred.

4. Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications in the Windows environment.

5. Orientation to detail with good oral and written communications skills.

6. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

7. Ability to work in a dynamic, team oriented environment with multiple priorities.
