General Information

This position is located at the new TransCanada Coolidge Generating Station (CGS). CGS is a natural gas fired 575 megawatt gas turbine simple cycle peaking power plant located in Coolidge, Arizona.

 

This position is eligible for domestic relocation

This position is not eligible for cross border relocation.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Plant Operations and Maintenance Supervisor the Plant Mechanical Technician provides the functions necessary to support the day to day operations and maintenance of the Coolidge Generating Station. Responsibilities and Physical Requirements include, but are not limited to:

 

Responsibilities:

- Ensure the plant is maintained according to Company policy and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state and local regulatory requirements; with a strong focus on health, safety and environmental issues.

- Execute and comply with all safety programs, environmental programs, plant policies and maintenance procedures.

- Ensure the safety of plant and non-plant personnel. Ensure the protection of the environment and surrounding community.

- Take the necessary actions to prevent environmental spills or releases and minimize the impact of environmental events should they occur.

- Be part of the emergency response team to include but not limited to technician level hazmat response, confined space rescue and high angle rescue as may be determined.

- Maintain accurate logs, journals and equipment records.

- Provide leadership, mentoring and training to less experienced plant personnel and peers.

- Ensure that the lock-out and tag-out (LOTO) procedures and policies are carried out safely and in compliance with applicable procedures and guidelines.

- Provide input into setting plant goals and objectives; and then set out to achieve them.

- Perform various site upkeep and general housekeeping tasks.

- Prepare and validate equipment inspection, maintenance and repair procedures.

- Using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) complete corrective and preventive work orders; enter work requests; and, enter requisitions for procuring materials and services.

- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair plant mechanical equipment and systems.

- Analyze and diagnose persistent operating system and equipment problems. Provide and implement long term solutions to manage and/or mitigate or eliminate them.

- Provide active control over and coordinate work with third party contractors.

- Assist O&M Supervisor in planning and executing maintenance outages.

- Remain current with technological advances in areas such as vibration analysis, oil analysis and conditioning, mechanical alignment, and thermo-graphic inspection.

- Qualify as an outside operator to support plant start-ups and shut-downs.

- Work overtime in support of plant commercial commitments and outages.

- Provide 24 hour rotating on-call emergency response.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements:

- Standing, sitting, walking, climbing ladders/scaffolding and lifting (50 Lbs.)

- Work at height. Work in confined spaces. Work in cramped and sometimes awkward positions. Work in inclement weather conditions. Use hand and power tools.

- Work with and/or around high pressure processes such as hydraulics, water and air; high temperature surfaces and exhaust gasses; high and low voltage electrical generating and distribution equipment; high speed rotating machinery; and, chemicals and chemical process equipment.

- May be exposed to high noise, heat and cold.

- Be able to don personal protective equipment including but not limited to eye and hearing protection; SCBA's and respirators; fall protection; and various classes of arc flash and chemical protective clothing.

 

Qualifications and Education

- Have a strong commitment and positive attitude toward safety.

- Demonstrated ability to utilize hand and power tools.

- Demonstrated ability in the use of specialized tools such as vibration analysis equipment, laser and dial indicator alignment, and borescope.

- Demonstrated ability in the maintenance and repair of pumps, mechanical seals, couplings, gas turbines, valves, air/gas compressors etc...

- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

- Self starter who demonstrates initiative and has a 'can do' attitude.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities; and, is able to set goals.

- Have strong analytical and problem solving skills.

- Accepts responsibility for successes and failures.

- Inspires others' commitment and values differences in people.

- Competent computer skills with proficiency in the use of the MS Office Suite and email.

- Must be able and available to travel within the US and Canada which requires a valid passport.

- Must hold and maintain a valid US driver's license.

 

Education / Experience:

- High School graduate. AAS degree in an industry related course of study is a plus.

- Mechanical Technician Level 3- Minimum of three to five years power generation gas turbine combined cycle and/or peaking plant experience or equivalent military experience.

- Mechanical Technician Level 4- Minimum of five to seven years power generation gas turbine combined cycle and/or peaking plant experience or equivalent military experience.

- Plant commissioning and start up experience highly desired.

- Experience with GE LM6000 aero derivative gas turbines with SPRINT highly desired.

- Experience with natural gas compressors and ammonia conditioning equipment desired.

 

*Please note that the successful candidate may be hired at a more appropriate level, depending on qualifications.
