Job Description

Responsible for the development of new transmission opportunities in support of AEP Transmission Strategy & Business Development through engineering/planning activities. Primary responsibilities include:

• Performing technical studies in support of AEP Transmission Strategy & Business Development, with an emphasis on economic modeling and cost/benefit analyses.
• Performing due diligence on potential projects and actively examining industry landscape to develop new transmission opportunities.
• Coordinating the development of input necessary to establish project parameters, preparing cost estimates and provides input to the budget and planning activities, and monitoring project status and recommends action accordingly.
• Representing AEP joint-venture transmission project interests in RTO and other study forums.
• Drafting technical reports, white papers, and other outreach material for AEP Transmission.
• Establishing an active leadership role by engaging in industry working groups and outreach activities.

Minimum Requirements

Required:
Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).   [Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) independently evaluated and found to be equivalent to an engineering degree awarded by a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S.]   

Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred. Masters degree a plus.

Desirable to have experience with PROMOD for economic analysis of transmission expansion projects to ensure reliable, cost-efficient electric supply. Experience may include
• Defining event files (monitored line/contingency pairs) which are the transmission constraints.
• Analyzing significant amounts of data.
• Evaluating simulation model parameters and fundamental market drivers to obtain reasonable results.
• Reviewing results such as LMP, unit generation and production cost, company purchase/sale, binding constraints to ensure a good representation of actual system conditions.
Knowledge of PROMOD Analysis Tool (PAT) and PSS/E power flow software is a plus.

This position will require a demonstrated ability to extrapolate beyond known facts, with an awareness of AEP's competitive position and how business decision impacts its transmission unit's goal and objectives.   Communication and interpersonal skills are a must, with the ability to network with peers, share information, encourage cooperation and function as a team leader. Competencies include the ability to communicate and presents ideas clearly, participate in the preparation of reports and technical papers, lead and facilitates meetings effectively, and exhibit professionalism representing AEP Transmission in interactions outside the company.

Technical expertise required includes intermediate level engineering knowledge plus experience; the ability to work independently with limited guidance from higher level engineers; assisting peers in handling complex problems or analysis; exhibiting fundamental understanding of pertinent transmission equipment, materials, systems and business processes; exhibiting fundamental understanding of standards, codes and regulations relevant to the area of assignment; and keeping abreast of new products, developments and technologies.
