AREVA Solar is seeking a Director of Manufacturing for our Mountain View, CA location. This qualified individual will support the AREVA Solar, Global Manufacturing & Supply Chain group. Responsibilities include:
  • Work as part of the team to develop a long term business plan for the Las Vegas facility.
  • Driving the culture to enhance a dedication to safety, integrity, best practices and high performance.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to the Las Vegas manufacturing team.
  • Develop a goal orientated culture & assist in implementing this across all facilities.
  • Develop the manufacturing skills base to best suit employee development & meet the defined department targets..
  • Least cost manufacturing & supply chain strategies..
  • Implement processes within the existing Las Vegas facility that can be easily transferred to Global Manufacturing.
  • Promote a strong. lean Manufacturing culture integral with Continuous Improvement
  • Develop KPIs for Las Vegas Manufacturing that can be applicable to other manufacturing operations.
  • Drive leading indicators versus lagging indicators.
  • Develop & maintain written operational policies and procedures in conjunction with the other managers. Integrate these Safety & Quality initiatives within Procedural documentation..
  • Lead the Value Stream Mapping initiative.
  • Establish and promote a rapport in and among corporate, manufacturing and field personnel to encourage a collaborative environment in which all levels of input are taken into account.
  • Ownership of Las Vegas facility manufacturing budget. Develop budget, monitor & report on financial performance.
  • Apply lean and six sigma methodologies to increase efficiency and effectiveness while maximizing cost containment.
  • Talent Management: work within company guidelines to ensure continued development of personnel throughout the plant.
  • Assist other manufacturing sites in successful replication of volume production technologies
  • Developing, leading and managing AREVA Solar's manufacturing team.
  • Designing and building manufacturing facilities which deliver high quality products on time at low cost.
  • Producing Solar Steam Generator in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Further ramping production to meet requirements of AREVA Solar's next generation demonstration solar steam generator in spring 2010.
  • Identifying potential sites to build a manufacturing facility, closing on the location, and outfitting the building.
  • Working closely with Business Development and the Project Delivery organization to resolve issues that could affect success.
  • Building a quality system which identifies and resolves any problems from manufacturing and into installation
  • Identifying and developing scalable manufacturing and assembly processes for future projects.
  • Identifying potential sources of manufacturing and materials problems before they occur and developing strategies to overcome them.
  • Work closely with the Coatings group to run efficient boiler tube production and high quality R&D support in the Las Vegas Plant.
This position will play two key roles in AREVA Solar's success:
(1) Produce solar array equipment as required per early project demand, and
(2) Develop high volume manufacturing processes for new product introductions.
This position will play an instrumental role in the overall success of the company, as the processes developed at the Las Vegas facility will be replicated at other factories as the company expands worldwide.
The successful candidate will be accountable for:
  • Meeting or exceeding customers' expectations, and striving for continuous improvement of core metrics including safety, quality, delivery, new product introduction, cost productivity, and functional cost containment.
  • Providing breakthrough leadership, staff development, budgeting, technical engineering expertise, and management of key programs to improve productivity of operations and other services in accordance with policies and procedures and current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Enthusiastically ensuring robust delivery systems for quality products by representing a manufacturing perspective during the concurrent product design process.
  • Focusing plant efforts on improvement in a high-change environment in a medium industrial facility, producing quality end products, and delivering on time and on budget.
  • Strict adherence to Corporate and/or Plant policies, rules, and regulations and ensuring environmental health and safety is a top priority in the operation of the facility.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Reports to the VP Manufacturing, AREVA Solar. The Manufacturing and Plant Management Director is responsible for overall sourcing, production, procurement and delivery of direct and indirect material for the Solar business.
AREVA Solar is in a growth phase with an enviable number of major projects already in action including the planning of manufacturing facilities in a number of countries and the development of field opportunities. The Director, Manufacturing and Plant Management will need to come up to speed rapidly, understanding existing activities and technologies and driving the successful establishment and completion of these and new projects.
AREVA Solar, a part of AREVA Renewable Inc., has a very large, international market and unique technology and service offerings. AREVA Solar exists to deliver turnkey CSP projects using technology solutions which AREVA controls. CSP projects each in excess of $100 M are already advanced as a result of internal AREVA Solar business development and existing partnerships and planned acquisitions.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (ME, IE preferred) with a minimum of 5-8 years in a manufacturing/plant operations leadership role.
  • 10 years experience designing and deploying high-volume high-precision manufacturing operations, with responsibility for multiple complex production lines, volume production management, new product introduction through high volume manufacturing, and TQM/ISO 9000 process implementation in a volume manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing management, preferably in scale-up to high volume, and development of greenfield sites, utilizing world class manufacturing methods - ideally, product experience will cover the range from high volume low cost manufacturing to complex system scale.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully building high performing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying Six Sigma and Lean methodologies including quality and process control.
  • Demonstrated ability to seek out new methods and to incorporate them into existing practices work processes.
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills with ability to multitask in a fast-paced, detail oriented environment.
  • MS Office skills must include Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Travel up to 50%%3C/SPAN>

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.

  • Experience working in "startup" and established corporate environments.
  • International experience is preferred.
  • Experience with implementation of planning/ERP systems a plus.
  • Experience implementing systems to ensure on time delivery preferred.
  • Work history as an engineer.
  • MSEE, MSME and/or MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
  • Multilingual (English a necessity; French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, German a plus).
  • Has a "hands-on" approach: proven experience that shows candidate is willing to jump in to perform detailed tasks.
  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal networks within the organization.
  • Experience in repetitive and project based manufacturing environments.
