Overview: Operates, inspects, maintains and troubleshoots generating plant electrical equipment and control systems.
Responsibilities: Demonstrates knowledge of plant system functions including maintenance work practices and divisional safe work practicesDemonstrates knowledge of the purpose and function of plant electrical equipment and control systemsPerforms maintenance and troubleshoots plant electrical equipment and systemsDemonstrates the proper care and use of electrical and electronic test equipmentPerforms administrative functions in support of work unit such as timekeeping, materials support, cost monitoring, and scheduling and quality control/quality assuranceUses plant computer systems to monitor work backlog and input work order dataPerforms data collection and maintain proper logsPerforms emergency response activities as requiredPerforms general housekeeping functions as necessaryOperates Company vehicles and equipment
Qualifications: - Must have basic computer skills
- Must have experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment and control systems
- High School Graduate or GED
- Achieve a successful score on the Power Plant Maintenance (MASS) and Plant Operator (POSS) aptitude tests
- Ability to work rotating shiftwork, holidays, weekends and overtime
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to interpret and apply instructions, specifications, blueprints, and procedures
- Possess a valid jurisdictional driver's license
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and time management skills
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet stringent deadlines
- Ability to perform work both indoors and outdoors, requiring continuous physical activity, sometimes of a strenuous and stressful nature
- Ability to work in enclosed vessels or confined spaces
- Ability to use various hand/power driven and hydraulic tools and machinery
- Ability to use arms, legs, feet, and hands in a fully coordinated manner
- Ability to climb ladders, bend, twist, kneel, crawl, pull/push and lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk and squat for extended periods of time
- Ability to work on or around energized electrical equipment
- Ability to work at elevated heights including scaffolding
- Ability to work alone in remote areas
- Ability to work in areas with limited lighting
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures ranging from very cold to very hot
- Possess good hearing and vision
- Ability to work in areas that may be noisy and dirty
- Ability to wear a respirator and other job related personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to meet (on an annual basis) appropriate physical evaluations identified by Mirant as prerequisites to performing certain task and training activities
Preferred: - Skills as a plant operator
- Associates Degree in a related science or equivalent technical degree and three to five years of job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
