Job Description
Position Summary The purpose of this position is to provide leadership in assigned areas when implementing and evaluating Safety & Industrial Hygiene processes relating to accident prevention strategies.

The Safety & IH Specialist is responsible for following trends and implementing processes and programs to improve safety performance by assuring the elimination of hazards and/or potential hazards in the work place. By doing the aforementioned, this position impacts the reduction of injuries and of Workers' Compensation costs.

The Safety & IH Specialists make decisions every day that affect the manner in which duties are performed related to safety standards of the corporation. This incumbent works with line management/supervision to assist them to ensure corrective strategies are developed/modified to address accident trends and/or hazards. The Safety & Industrial Hygiene Specialist analyzes jobs and makes recommendations on a safe approach to the job. The incumbent must interpret regulations/rules when called upon to do so.
It is very important for this position to be available as the Safety resource for the workforce (employees, supervisors, managers). The incumbent must be reachable at all times and/or assure employees know who to contact for assistance if there are special circumstances when the Specialist is not available. It becomes the responsibility of the Safety & Industrial Hygiene Specialist to be the facilitator of understanding safety information throughout the corporation. In addition, this individual is called upon to make presentations to groups on a routine basis. Primary Responsibilities 1. Participate in all accident investigations.

2. Support line managers with the implementation of Safety and Industrial Hygiene initiatives.

3. Participate and support Safety & Health Committees.

4. Perform evaluations/inspections that address applicable compliance of federal, state, local, and company regulations.

5. Coordinate testing and monitoring services for employee health (air monitoring, employee testing, etc.)

6. Evaluate Safety Training Programs and coordinate training schedule as required.

7. Monitor external regulation to keep updated and abreast of changing requirements so that these can be communicated to line management.

8. Assist with the implementation and coordination of company-wide initiatives in order to bring about effectiveness of work practices as these relate to the Safety & Industrial Hygiene discipline. Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Engineering, or Business; or 7-10 years of electric utility industry experience. Preferred Qualifications 1. ASP-CSP certification preferred.
2. Thorough knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene regulations applicable to the Electric Utility industry. (Federal, state, and local regulations).
3. In-depth knowledge of job safety procedures and regulations applicable to jobs performed throughout the corporation.
