POSITION DESCRIPTION

AREVA is seeking a "Metrology Engineer" for our Richland, WA - Horn Rapids Rd. location. This qualified individual will support the Fuel Manufacturing Business Unit - Rod and Bundle Technical Support group.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Gage Ownership.
  • Gage Drawing.
  • Gage Specifications (Material and Process).
  • Application Procedure/Instruction.
  • Calibration and Tracking.
  • Performance and Manufacturing Issues.
  • Satisfaction of applicable design attributes.
  • Gage Design.
  • Review and refining of current gage designs from Designer.
  • New FOAK (first of a kind) gage designs.
  • Assessment of impact of design change on gage functionality/applicability.
  • Gage Document Drawing release and tracking.
  • Gage activity prioritization.
  • Gage cost estimates including cost/benefit analysis.
  • Use of gage versus some other method.
  • Design of gage and its application.
  • Gage procurement.
  • Recommended process improvements including.
  • Roles and responsibilities including design approval at gage meets intent of design.
  • Drawing format improvements and automation.
  • Gage need identification.
  • Gage use instructions.
  • Condition Reports (CRs) dealing with Non-Product related M&TE (measure and test equipment).
  • Out of tolerance conditions of gages, torque wrenches, CMM equipment, calipers, etc.
  • Non-conformance issues regarding M&TE procedures.
  • Calibration date extensions for M&TE.
  • Recommend required frequency for gage calibrations.
  • Determination of whether a fabrication tool/standard needed to be entered in the M&TE system.
  • Develop curricula for position.
  • Develop or recommend appropriate calibration procedures.
Skillset and Training
  • Design Engineering background.
  • Geometric Design and Tolerancing (from a use standpoint, not just product standpoint).
  • Gage theory.
  • Materials/Wear.
  • Stack up / Fit-ups and Tolerances.
  • Industry standards and guidance.
  • Post Transition (Summer 2011), part time will be on select Process Engineering tasks.

  • BS in an Engineering or technical discipline plus 5 years of related work experience.
  • Practical metrology experience required.

  • Has well-developed action oriented and project management qualities to ensure completion of tasks on time and in budget.
TRAVEL:
Domestic or International travel required. Approximately one trip per year.
