Coordinate and optimize industrial hygiene processes within the assigned power generating facilities of the Fossil and Hydro Generation regions. Ensure compliance with applicable industrial hygiene regulations. The Plant Industrial Hygiene Coordinator (PIHC II) will normally be the facility contact for industrial hygiene issues and, as appropriate, environmental issues. Potential cost of industrial hygiene non-compliance is significant. Assure compliance with all applicable industrial hygiene regulations for safe plant operation and maintenance. As applicable, recommendations will be made to plant management directed at ensuring compliance with company policies and state and federal industrial hygiene regulations through guidelines and procedures. Facilitate and coordinate activities of others, or perform work activities to complete routine required activities. This includes, where needed, actively working with plant personnel to assure industrial hygiene compliance when any modifications to the physical plant or operating procedures are planned or undertaken.
Coordinate or perform as needed functions and activities related to the implementation of the industrial hygiene program.
Interact with the applicable AEP Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Regional Plant Engineering, and Engineering Services sections to assure compliance with industrial hygiene regulations.
Coordinate and work with the Plant Environmental Coordinator (PEC) assigned to common facilities to effectively implement AEP IH and/or environmental policies and governmental regulations. Coordinate with the PEC compliance program implementation that integrates environmental and IH disciplines.
Coordinate, as assigned, regulatory reporting and notifications related to industrial hygiene programs or incidents. Monitor the implementation of operations and maintenance procedures for plant industrial hygiene control equipment such as sound reduction, airborne contaminant control, etc. Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate and participate in solutions to complex problems encountered; use cost effective strategies and productivity improvement methods in all applicable duties. Serve as the plant focal point for regulatory agencies where appropriate.
Operate and troubleshoot, as needed, industrial hygiene equipment and systems such as air sampling pumps, confined space monitors, respirator fit-test equipment, insulation sampling equipment, lead paint sampling, and other similar equipment as determined to be needed for IH compliance and for the safety of the individual.
Optimize and/or implement reduction efforts for employee exposure as described in AEP or agency industrial hygiene programs and regulations.
Coordinate and provide, as needed, industrial hygiene training of employees with a thorough understanding of training elements.
Coordinate economic analysis of industrial hygiene compliance and IH projects. Propose a budget for items identified for IH compliance.
Assure safety of industrial hygiene related activities. Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree in Industrial Hygiene, Applied Sciences, Engineering or other applicable field, and five-eight years experience in plant operations and/or industrial hygiene program implementation or equivalent education and experience. Advanced degree may provide credit for part of the experience requirement if in an applicable field.
