NAES Corporation, a leading provider of 3rd party O&M services to the Independent Power Industry, is currently recruiting for a Fuel Handling Assistant at the Morgantown Power Station. Located in Morgantown, West Virginia, the facility uses coal as its primary fuel and consists of a single 50-megawatt generating unit that is equipped with an exhaust gas baghouse to trap fly ash. GENERAY SUMMARY The Fuel Handling Assistant (FHA) assists operators in the safe and efficient operation of the fuel receiving and handling systems and the supporting equipment and systems. The FHA routinely inspsects, monitors operating components and reports equipment status to the Shift Supervisor and Control Room Operator. The FHA is responsible for loading ash removal trucks within their legal limits and insuring adequate conditioning of the ash to control dust. The FHA will be expected to assist in other plant operations or maintenance as necessary. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Operates ash handling equipment and loading ash into trucks for the removal from the plant. Assists the Fuel Handler. Perform start-up, shutdown and normal operations of the ash removal and ash load out systems. Continuously improve safety, housekeeping, and the work environment through out the site. Execute orders from the Shift Supervisor and Control Room Operator at isolated panels for clearing equipment or making it ready for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures, clear, tag, test, and safety tape these operations. Perform routine and corrective maintenance on all ash handling equipment and any other equipment as assigned. Maintain logs as assigned. Perform loading and unloading operations using a forklift or bobcat. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance inspections on same. Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures within the scope of operating and maintenance instructions. Assist maintenance and operations personnel as required. Maintain all areas clean and orderly at all time. Complete other related duties as assigned. Operates various mobile equipment. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY This position operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties under general direction and minimum supervision. Decisions are made within prescribed operating procedures and guidelines. The position encounters recurring work situations of moderate complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. Must maintain a professional relationship with fuel and ash contractor personnel. The Fuel Handling Assistant must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents and be in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. This position must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement. All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customers' needs are being met. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The Fuel Handling Assistant reports to the Control Room Operator and Shift Supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include; working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and lifting 100 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, respirators and others must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required. Must be able to enter confined spaces. This position requires extended working hours and varied rotating shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedule, work load and plant conditions. Must be available for overtime. All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school is required. Two years experience in a Power Plant or a technical degree is desirable. Experience in equipment maintenance, welding, operations highly desired. Experience in medium equipment operations is required. Theoretical and practical knowledge of industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection/recording of plant parameters is highly desirable. Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls desirable. Extensive working knowledge of power plant industry is desirable. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have excellent organizational skills. Must have a positive can do attitude. | |
