Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
Serves as a program manager in the field of Fire Protection and Fire Losses.  Provides authoritative decisions and recommendations on behalf of TVA regarding critical and/or controversial issues related to Fire Protection.  Consults, negotiates and commits TVA resources, engineering support and professional cooperation with senior management personnel, management-level officers from other companies, and policy-making representatives from regulatory and professional engineering organizations.  Is responsible for one or more programs or program components of such magnitude, diversity and scope that their technical performance is of critical importance to COO's overall objectives.  

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
-Owns and implements the COO Fire Protection Program which provides the requirements and guidelines necessary to limit the risk of injury to personnel, diminish the property damage, reduce the length of unplanned outages and reduce the probability of fires, explosions and other loss events.
-Serves as an industry-recognized leader, expert and technical consultant in the Fire Protection field.
-Represents the interest of TVA on industry committees and has authority to speak for the Agency.  May hold the chairmanship or other high position on these committees.
-Participates in the development of long-range planning involving large fiscal expenditures for COO facilities.
-Is accountable and influential for TVA's interests in industry research dollars.
-Provides technical consultation to Fossil, Hydro and Transmission.  
-Understands, develops and provides interpretations of fire protection regulations, policies and industry standards and provides the final decision on these matters.
-Provides the final decision and technical opinion for production work when the staff at any TVA facility needs direction.
-Provides overall technical conscience, experience, industry involvement and guidance.
-May work as an individual contributor or as a team leader in planning, organizing and supervising the work of plant engineers, vendors, and craft employees.
-Responsible for the assigning technical work with matrixed responsibilities to the Fire Protection leads in the various SBUs.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY FACTORS:
Education - A  B.S. degree in engineering or a related technical field is highly desirable or equivalent education and experience is required.
Experience - Minimum of ten years' relevant experience with at least 5 years in loss prevention and/or fire protection is also required.  Extensive experience in interfacing with engineering disciplines, integrating Loss Prevention requirements and expertise into the production process, and a broad exposure to major problems/issues with demonstrated ability for their identification and resolution is desired.    
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Individuals at this level must demonstrate a high degree of foresight, strategic consideration, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented fire protection complexities is desired.
