CC Tech I (20T) --- 12 to 18 months of power plant experience in operations, maintenance, electrical, instrumentation and controls in gas turbine/HRSG systems. (Midpoint Salary : $60,737). Seeking Control Room Operators with natural gas combined cycle power plant (NGCC, CCGT, CCPP) experience for immediate need as Combined Cycle Plant Technicians in SE Indiana (near Cincinnati). Job duties include both operations & maintenance. Must experience with power plant operations and as a Control Room Operator of a combined cycle power plant. Instrumentation & controls experience a huge plus. Prefer candidates with experience in CC power plant equipped with GE 7FA gas turbines, GE D11 steam turbines, GE Mark V and Emerson Ovation digital control systems (DCS). Perform skilled work in a safe manner necessary to operate and maintain gas/oil fueled electric generating units composed of gas/steam turbines, generators, boilers/heat recovery steam generator (HRSGs), transformers, pumps, condensers, switchyard and related auxiliary equipment. Operate the plant in startup, shutdown, and normal steady state mode. Direct the work of outside operators, support personnel and contractors. Participate and direct others in development of operating procedures for normal operating conditions. Perform skilled work in the checking, inspecting, repair, maintenance, installation and construction of plant equipment and structures. Perform and direct others in the troubleshooting of routine problems. Perform technical and skilled work in conjunction with troubleshooting of electrical and electronic systems, digital control systems, communication systems, instruments and control systems, computers and computer networks, annunciator systems and recorders. Perform technical work in chemical analyses, industrial hygiene and environmental testing and calculations related to the operating efficiency of power plant equipment. Conduct tests, surveys and layout work on plant projects. Communicate and coordinate activities affecting safe and efficient operation of plant in an often distracting and multitasking environment. Prepare written reports on unit conditions and operations. Provide effective interaction with Production Optimization Group. Demonstrate ability to work with others at all levels.

Start-up, operate, control, synchronize and shutdown turbines, generators, condensers, boiler/heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), boiler feed pumps, exciters, transformers, switchyard and auxiliary equipment safely and efficiently. Operate valves, pumps and controls from the control room and remote locations as needed. Take appropriate actions in the event of abnormal plant equipment conditions and in accordance with plant guidelines for out-of-spec parameters. Monitor controlling, indicating and recording devices, compare results with established standards and make adjustments as required to operating conditions. Instruct others in proper equipment checks to ensure safe and efficient operations of the plant. Enter and review data in the logbook.
Monitor and respond to alarms and unusual conditions to ensure proper operation of equipment within established standards and report irregular and abnormal operating conditions to supervision.
Maintain and monitor proper boiler water chemistry and other plant cycle chemistry by reviewing operational data and collecting and analyzing samples. Analyze data such as chemical test results, conductivity, pH, flow and temperature readings, etc. and make appropriate adjustments. Direct others to make appropriate adjustments. Maintain and operate the water treatment plant.
Communicate with corporate Production Optimization Group (POG) to obtain dispatch orders, confirm status and abnormal conditions. Regulate the unit(s) output in accordance with requirements and plant conditions.
Monitor, inspect, install, remove, test, adjust, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair electrical, electronic, instrumentation and plant controls systems and components. Conduct electrical system interlock and circuit breaker trip checks to determine proper operational performance. Assist in interlock tests and functional tests on control systems, relays and instrumentation. Perform control system monitoring and program simple modifications using a computer interface terminal. Use elementary, schematics, wiring and controls diagrams to locate, troubleshoot and repair control systems involving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components. Use electrical and instrumentation test equipment to troubleshoot and calibrate plant equipment.
Perform mechanical maintenance work including equipment alignment and rebuilds and the use of machine shop and portable machining equipment. Repair rotating equipment, valves, actuators, piping, etc.
Perform and instruct predictive and preventive maintenance work by inspecting, monitoring, lubricating, and testing plant equipment to determine conditions such as wear, corrosion and deposits. Perform inspections and corrective maintenance activities on plant equipment and components. Conduct chemical tests and inspections to ensure proper operation of the plant. Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in clean and orderly fashion. Assist in developing predictive maintenance schedule and plan activities.
Use work management systems to initiate, retrieve and update work orders, material requests, PM's and time entry, etc. Use various computer applications and software programs such as DCS, P-GADS, TAPIS, PI, etc. to extract data, analyze trends and report status to ensure plant reliability and efficiency. Produce, revise and maintain records, technical reports, procedures and plant drawings as required. Conduct investigations and make calculations utilizing DCS, PI, etc. to improve the plant reliability and efficiency. Prepare required drawings/layouts on projects such as new construction, revisions to existing facilities and all types of power plant equipment.
Operate, monitor, maintain and calibrate environmental and industrial hygiene equipment such as CEMS, noise and gas detection devices, etc. in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Collect and analyze air, gas, water and chemicals samples.
Direct and assist the work of assigned employees and contractors as required. Provide direct operational instructions and guidance to others. Conduct JSAs, utilize JHAs and MSDSs, etc. and follow established plant and company guidelines in job briefings. Work under general direction of CC Technician Lead as well as plant supervision.
Initiate clearance permits, isolate plant equipment and remove all stored energy in accordance with AEP Clearance Permit Procedure. Initiate permits for hot work and confined space in accordance with AEP policies and procedures.
Respond to emergency situations, assist in maintaining plant security and maintain proficiency in incipient fire fighting, first aid and CPR. Understand and adhere to all SPCC and emergency response programs.
Perform work as identified in the Managing Environmental, Safety and Health (MESH) process and document safety and health near misses, incidents and accidents and environmental hazards in accordance with AEP policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations and AEP policies, procedures, standards and specifications.
Attend and actively participate in environmental, safety and health, technical, business and leadership training and meetings. Share knowledge; train and mentor other employees. Report and correct any unsafe actions, conditions or near misses. Responsible for exercising maximum care and good judgment in preventing accidents and protecting the safety and health of fellow workers.
Minimum Requirements Must have performed the duties of, and maintained all the qualifications, certifications and licenses of CC Plant Technician II, or the equivalent, and must be able to pass an examination and/or demonstration as determined by the company, and in addition:
Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) tests are required for this position. Must have the skills and knowledge of plant operations outside of the control room.
Must have basic knowledge and skills needed to analyze, interpret, calibrate and adjust plant instruments and controls, and be capable of detecting and making repairs to simple control systems and understand protective systems.
Must have basic knowledge of chemical tests, procedures, reagents, etc. to perform chemical analysis, industrial hygiene evaluations and environmental sampling.
Must have a basic knowledge of minor plant maintenance, materials, practices, tools, rigging, scaffolding and blocking involved in the work.
Must have a basic knowledge of the heat balance systems and the effect of unbalances on operating efficiency.
Must have the ability to direct and coordinate the work of employees and contractors.
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Possess the ability to communicate effectively with peers and plant management.
