Job Description
AREVA is posting this opportunity to identify and consider viable candidates for an upcoming Maintenance Specialist position at our various locations in North America. A projected start date is yet to be determined as it is dependent on business needs.
Transnuclear, Inc., a subsidiary of Areva, is seeking a Maintenance Specialist to inspect, repair, and rebuild mechanical and/or electrical equipment and components for it's Fuel Loading Services (FLS) operation. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Understanding basic rigging and heavy load handling
  • Researching, interpreting, and explaining inspection results
  • Ensuring industrial and radiation safety requirements are followed
  • Implementing in-service inspections, testing, and maintenance programs
  • Supporting Non Destructive Examinations (NDE) and quality control inspections
  • Understanding Hydraulic theory and hydraulic system operation and troubleshooting
  • Planning/scheduling required work and facilitating the setting of company and customer priorities
  • Analyzing equipment breakdowns, determining corrective actions, and conducting and/or directing repairs
Travel could be 60% of the time on field assignments
The typical projects your group may work on include:
  • Spent fuel handling, transporting, and storing assemblies currently in spent fuel pools at customers' nuclear plant sites. This could involve equipment operation and training for sites where full service ("Pool to Pad") support is provided, site set up and maintenance support of Leased Transfer Equipment (LTE), and service for Transfer Equipment owned by customers at their sites.

Fuel Loading Services (FLS) provides support for all aspects of operations and maintenance of a nuclear site Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI). This includes assembly, test, operation and onsite support of the Transfer Equipment used to move a Dry Storage Canister (DSC) from a plant's spent fuel pool (storage) to the ISFSI location. This equipment includes heavy haul trailer, Transfer Cask (confines, shields, and lifts the DSC) with supporting skid that mounts on the trailer, and a Hydraulic Ram System (HRS) that is used to push the DSC into its concrete storage container (Horizontal Storage Module - (HSM))

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this Maintenance Specialist opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • H.S. diploma or GED and 4 years of closely related experience in mechanical/electrical troubleshooting and maintenance or inspection/testing, or, equivalent combination of education and experience (Systems to be supported include mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Effective administrator and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to travel to plant sites on short notice
  • Strong professional impact and presence - proven facilitation and customer service skills
  • Self motivated, assertive, detailed-oriented, dependable with a collaborative team approach
  • Able to pass fitness for duty and obtain unescorted access at Nuclear Power plants
  • Travel could be 60% of the time on field assignments
