Job Description Principal IT Architect for Unix and Mainframe
Exelon Corporation is looking for a Principal IT Architect to work in their downtown Chicago location at Chase Tower (preferable) or Philadelphia or Kennett Square locations at Pennsylvania.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Partner with the various IT application solution teams and the infrastructure / operations teams to drive the overall Unix and Mainframe strategy and architecture by weighing advantages of the existing standards / principles, market availability of products, and risks / benefits of technology introduction into Exelon¿s computing environment.
Provide comprehensive consultation to business unit and IT management and staff at the highest technical level for Unix and Mainframe architecture and design.

Lead efforts to establish a comprehensive Unix and Mainframe application hosting platforms / options and facilitate proper governance processes.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Work with IT and business teams to establish Unix and Mainframe strategy and identify technology solutions to achieve business results.

Ensure appropriate implementation of Unix and Mainframe technology within both the development and production environments.

For architecture: Establish Unix and Mainframe technical architecture strategy that aligns with the business strategy.

Design and develop overall technical architecture of Unix and Mainframe for application hosting and investigate emerging (e.g., cloud) technology solutions for Exelon: For engineering: Perform design and engineering functions for comprehensive Unix and Mainframe technical architecture and oversee the introduction of new Unix and Mainframe technology solutions into the operations environment by utilizing Exelon¿s standard governance process.

Provide enterprise wide Unix and Mainframe architecture and modeling technical expertise and ability to abstract details to high level principles.

Advice to IT leadership in the development of Unix and Mainframe strategy plans to support business strategies.

Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with business and IT partners.

Ability to gain influence and buy-in with peers and management.

Communicate status to key stakeholders on a regular basis.

Maintain deep understanding in area of Unix and Mainframe architecture and technology solutions; evaluate new technologies or technology opportunities and provide analysis of their potential impact to the business; Experience with industry standard data models.

Provide input on performance of IT personnel to assist in performance evaluations, career development, and recognition.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Minimum:
Bachelor¿s degree in Computer Science or related discipline and solid, diverse experience in IT, with a focus in Unix and Mainframe technical architecture and engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Appropriate technical skills in architecting and engineering technology solutions.

In-depth knowledge of infrastructure and operations.

Comprehensive understanding of change management techniques associated with new technology implementation.

Experience producing an economic business case.

Demonstrated leadership ability.

Strong judgment; excellent analytical ability and consulting skills.

Excellent communications skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of IT and business management and with vendors.

Preferred:
Graduate degree in area of technical specialty.

POSITION SCOPE
Maintains deep knowledge of Unix and Mainframe technology across Exelon.

Promotes knowledge via seminars, presentations and publications within IT and Exelon.

Determines appropriate theories, practices and principles that relate the technology to Exelon¿s business.
