Job Description

Perform work associated with the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of all protection, control, and measurement devices and related equipment under general supervision.   Install, maintain and operate all oscillographs, digital fault recorders (DFR) and event recorders.   Install, maintain and operate all power line carriers (PLC), tone, pilot wire, fiber and associated communications equipment.   Install, maintain and operate station SCADA systems, statistical load metering, telemetering and transducers.   Respond to emergency call-outs and coordinate prompt restoration of service to customers as required. The following list sets forth the principal duties required with the degree of supervision normally given.   This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions.   Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.
Perform all tasks connected with the protection and control of all transmission lines, transformers, circuit breakers, rotating equipment (generating units, synchronous condensers, etc), capacitor banks and all related equipment.   Analyze industrial customer operating problems, suggesting improvements and initiating the same.

Install and perform acceptance and installation tests on protection, control, and measurement devices and associated equipment in stations.

Test protection, control, and electrical measuring equipment periodically and as required.

Calibrate protection, control, and electrical measuring equipment on a pre-established schedule and as required.

Analyze and interpret tests on protection, control, and measurement equipment and determine and perform corrective measures when needed.

Install, maintain and operate all power line carriers, station SCADA equipment, or cables as assigned.

Ensure the design, circuitry, installation and operation of equipment are correct prior to placing equipment in service.

Assist with the diagnosis of trouble, mis-operation, or damage of equipment and assist with corrective action to effect repair and prevent recurrence.

Perform switching at all voltage levels under the direction of the proper operating authority.

Maintain test equipment and automotive equipment in good working order so that work can be performed safely and efficiently anywhere throughout the System.

Install and operate power line monitoring equipment; retrieve and analyze data utilized to measure system disturbances or harmonic levels.

Install, maintain, and operate any new and added equipment or systems as assigned.

Coordinate work with other sections and departments as needed.

Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports and drawings as required.

Assist in conducting departmental safety meetings and training of other employees.

Assist employees of equal or higher classification; direct the work of employees assigned to assist.   

Perform all duties in accordance with the Company’s safety rules and operating regulations, environmental compliance, and practices.   

Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

1.   Must have satisfactorily performed the duties of, and have all the qualifications of, P & C Electrician B.



2.   Approximately two years? experience as a P & C Electrician B or the equivalent.



3.   Working knowledge of current, potential, closing and trip circuits.



4.   Working knowledge of material such as cable, lugs, and wire as applied to protective relay and control circuits.



5.   Working knowledge of assembly, anchoring, and interchangeability of the various switchboard panel-support and through systems.



6.   Must have the ability to read, understand, and correct electrical prints and diagrams and the ability to use hand tools.



7.   Must satisfactorily complete, in such time frames as may be established by the Company, all required training to advance to the next higher classification (P&C Electrician ? Certified) in the line of progression, or vacate the current classification.



8.   Must demonstrate the ability to perform duties in an alert, safe, and business-like manner and the ability to deal with customers and other employees in a courteous and professional manner.



9.   Ability to interpret, analyze and transmit facts graphically, orally, and in writing clearly and precisely.   



10.   Must possess and maintain a valid state driver?s license and must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.   



11.   Considerable travel may be required to complete work assignments.
