Job Description

Responsible for general records management, for assisting document management functions in connection with real estate, litigation and transactions in general, and for drafting and preparing legal documents, and performing legal assignments under the direct and continuing supervision of the attorneys of American Electric Power Service Corporation. Duties require the exercise of independent judgement in accordance with the highest legal and ethical standards.

1.   Perform records management support to Real Estate and other sections of the AEP Legal Department by assisting in management of the Legal File Room, and off-site records storage and retrieval, as assigned.   Create new files, review existing files for retention/disposal in compliance with applicable legal requirements and Corporate Policy.

2.   Provide paralegal support for transactions involving purchase and sale of real estate, granting or obtaining easements, leases, and licenses, and other real estate matters as assigned, including due diligence title examination, obtaining and approving title commitments and title insurance.

3.   Prepare or obtain certificates, resolutions, or related legal documents for specific transactions or projects as assigned.

4.   Assist Legal Department Attorneys and support staff as assigned in conducting records review, document preparation, discovery document management, legal research, reports, analyses and investigations.

5.   Assist Real Estate Attorneys with some administrative duties, such as travel and expense reports, billing, etc.

6.   Carry out, within the assigned area of responsibility, the Company's program of Equal Employment Opportunity, including its Affirmative Action obligations.

8.   Promote and enforce the Company's Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs.

9.   Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Paralegal certification required.   Associate Paralegal degree or bachelor degree or 3 to 5 years of equivalent paralegal or industry related experience required.
