Job Description
Xcel Energy's Denver region has an opening for a Sr. Safety Consultant. We need someone who will be able to provide expert level safety consultation, safety program review, review and communication of new and or pending federal regulations, provide administrative support with regulatory agency interactions, as well as region wide ergonomic analysis.
Certification and experience in conducting ergonomic evaluations preferred. CIH and or CSP certification preferred.
Summary
Provides expert level consulting services regarding multi-jurisdiction safety and regulatory compliance. Provides corporate oversight and leadership to various business areas and operating company safety partners in understanding and / or interpreting safety regulations, corporate policies and procedures. Partners with business area / operating company safety personnel to design and deploy corresponding safety programs and reporting processes. Responsible for preparing and / or reviewing all official Company responses to federal or state safety regulatory agencies.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Responsible for expert level technical safety consulting services for Xcel Energy. Responsibilities include tracking regulatory activity and analyzing new and proposed regulations, letters of intent from OSHA and regulatory guidelines from various agencies. Responsible for review of information on pertinent court cases and other documentation regarding potential impact on the company. Responsible for disseminating information to field personnel in a timely manner.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of specific regulatory requirements and methods of compliance through extensive research / review of federal and state statutes, regulations, industry standards and consultation with other industry professionals and business partners. Responsible to design and deploy programs, practices and procedures for ensuring corporate documents are developed, written/revised and implemented to reflect new or revised regulations. Partners with business area / operating company safety peers to insure all related documentation is updated appropriately.
  • Prepares and presents economic impact statements and / or recommendations to business area / operating company management on costs or benefits for any new or proposed regulations.
  • Consults with business leaders on safety incident / accidents to determine reporting requirements. Manages the corporate safety investigation of accidents and / or critical safety incidents. Develops investigation and reporting guidelines in partnership with Legal Services, Workforce Relations, Governmental Affairs, business area management and safety consultants. Formulates the corporate response to pending regulatory activity.
  • Provide technical consulting services to areas within Xcel Energy which include recognition, evaluation and recommendations designed to minimize deficiencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Provide safety and related health risk audits and deliver feedback to business area management on their accident elimination programs and regulatory compliance.

Required

  • BS/BA in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Business or related (6 years of related experience may substitute for the degree)
  • 5 years experience in the safety and / or related technical area with an expert level knowledge of OSHA and other federal and state safety and Industrial Hygiene laws / regulations.
  • Demonstrated skills in technical writing, oral communications / presentations, technical training, safety investigations and negotiations.

Preferred

  • Advanced Safety Certificate or CSP desirable
  • Advance degree
