NAES Corporation, a leading provider of 3rd party O&M services to the Independent Power Industry, is currently recruiting for the following position: Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Division IX Director, the Portfolio Engineer is responsible for results and performance engineering support functions. This involves monitoring plant availability, thermal efficiency, the cost of production and support the portfolio of solid fuel and natural gas plants in review, organization and evaluation of various plant projects. The Portfolio Engineer also provides technical support for plant and process improvements, and other engineering functions as assigned. Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities: Evaluates plant specific tests related to predictive and preventative maintenance, availability improvements, thermal efficiency, unit heat rate and the cost of production:Coordinates performance, functional, and surveillance testing of plant systems and components. Compares data with established standards, and interprets data with respect to plant equipment performance. Responsible for making recommendations to the Plant Managers regarding modifications to the plant for improved performance, availability and reliability. Recommendations involve development of or revisions to equipment operating procedures, system operating changes, design changes, and modification to or replacement of plant equipment.Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provides analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans.Assists Plant Managers with relevant input to the annual budget.Assists Plant Managers and/or their designee(s) in providing technical support in bid preparation specifications, evaluation of bid proposals, and monitoring contractor work to assure contract compliance.Assignments will involve external contact with engineering firms to discuss field changes, manufacturer sales representatives and service personnel and vendors to discuss new or modifications to existing equipment, resolve problems and exchange information. Has frequent internal contact with various plant personnel including shift supervisors, engineers, technicians and plant operations and maintenance personnel, to resolve problems, provide technical support and exchange information. Required Job-Related Qualifications: Four-year degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited collegeMinimum five years experience in power plant-related engineering (Electrical and/or Instrumentation and Controls preferable). Field experience strongly preferred. Experience in equipment, system and plant performance testing also preferred.A demonstrated understanding of power plant operations, including the interrelationship of engineering with operation and maintenance functions. Familiarity with ASME Performance Test Codes (e.g., PTC 6.1, PTC 4.1, etc.), Distributed Control Systems and power generating station electrical systems.Self-motivated, with the ability to create programs related to plant performance, availability and reliability. Demonstrated ability to perform varied tasks related to the engineering function of solid fuel and natural gas plants. Analyzing and interpreting data to make sound recommendations to the Plant Managers. Ability to analyze potentially complex operational problems and direct their resolution.Good oral and written communications skills are necessary.
