Job Description
LOOKING FOR AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY?
ENJOY A NEW EXCITING CAREER IN A GROWING INDUSTRY!
AREVA is seeking a Core Neutronics Performance Engineer. The qualified candidate will:
  • Be involved in the preparation of engineering documents (calculations, reports, functional requirements, etc.) in support of commercial reactor fuel/core designs and interface with AREVA European counterparts for reactor core product designs to support AREVA Light Water Reactor projects.
  • Participate in and support interface with regulatory authorities and design services customers to obtain regulatory approval of the AREVA reactor core design and methods.
  • Perform design and safety analyses to support the design of AREVA fuel for commercial PWR reactors.
  • Analyses involve the use of engineering computer codes to perform
    1) reactor physics and fuel management analyses to assess fuel management economics, core safety analysis requirements, in-core detector requirements, reactor control and reactivity impacts, and transient analysis,
    2) analyses to support the design requirements and implementation of core operational tools like POWERTRAX/S and prepare and benchmark core neutronic simulator models,
    3) methods assessment/analyses to demonstrate that licensing requirements are satisfied,
    4) core component design/performance assessment (i.e., RCCA's, in-core detectors, etc.) analysis for fluence accumulation, heating rates, etc.
  • Analyses are performed to support PWR reactor core design and licensing, assess proposed changes in fuel designs or operating strategies, evaluate changes in analytical methods, and support reactor functional design specifications and requirements.
Company Description
AREVA NP is dedicated to the design and construction of nuclear power plants and research reactors, instrumentation and control, modernization and maintenance services, components manufacture and the supply of nuclear fuel.
The PWR Core Engineering directly supports the reactor core design needs for US Region Light Water Reactor PWR commercial operation as well as the New Reactor Development programs (US EPR Design and Licensing). PWR Core Engineering will provide the leading support and co-ordination for reactor core fuel management development, design, licensing, safety analysis, and methods development required to support any commercial PWR reactor design. New Reactor Core Engineering performs a full range of neutronics, fuel management, thermal-hydraulic, thermo-mechanical, mechanical, and safety analysis of the fuel and core design for US EPR and emerging new reactor designs. PWR-CE engineers are involved in plant fuel handing and criticality analysis, dry storage and shipping container design, establishing mechanical and safety criteria, including evaluation of critical heat flux during normal operation and transient events; develop neutronic and thermal-hydraulic code requirements and methods to support the fuel analyses; coordinate thermal-hydraulic/mechanical testing of new fuel designs; perform neutronic fuel and core design; perform neutronic & TH analysis of the reactor core to support mechanical analyses, safety analyses and plant operations; perform mechanical design of core components and fuel assemblies, and participate in reactor licensing and regulatory issue resolution. PWR-CE represents an international design team within the AREVA corporate team.
With manufacturing facilities in 43 countries and a sales network in more than 100, AREVA offers customers reliable technological solutions for CO2-free power generation and electricity transmission and distribution. We are the world leader in nuclear power and the only company to cover all industrial activities in this field.

Our 71,000 employees are committed to continuous improvement on a daily basis, making sustainable development the focal point of the group's industrial strategy.

AREVA's businesses help meet the 21st century's greatest challenges: making energy available to all, protecting the planet, and acting responsibly towards future generations.
