Job Description

Perform technical and specialized work of a skilled nature in connection with, electrical and control systems, analysis, detection and repair of single loop control systems, electronic, devices, communication systems, and instruments such as meters, gauges and regulators, assist, others in making tests, surveys and layout work.
Assist in locating and repairing defects in control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components, using elementary, wiring, schematic, logic or control diagrams.

Install, remove, inspect, adjust, repair and calibrate instrumentation not associated with active trips such as: pressure, temperature, flow, gas analyzing, transmitting, receiving, recording, chemical testing devices and other equipment as assigned. Make simple circuit analysis and repair relays, electronic devices, meters, communication components and similar circuits.

Perform simple control system monitoring and minor program modifications using a computer interface terminal as directed.

Assist in low and medium voltage circuit breaker electrical/mechanical interlock checks, repairs and adjustments that are associated with breakers and plant electrical control and distribution systems.

Install and repair conduit, cabling and wiring for power, heat trace, control and lighting systems.

Assist in or perform preventive maintenance and repair activities on equipment such as: batteries, motors, compressed air systems, forklifts, manlifts, electic heaters, etc.

Install, clean, test and repair lines and taps associated with control equipment, meters and gauges.

Install and repair tubing.

Make required equipment checks and inspections. Record data, assist in performing tests and prepare reports, graphs, sketches and curves.

Assist in checking operation and maintenance projects.

Assist others in engineering layouts and preparing data for engineering procedures, specifications, contracts, bills of materials and requistions for the installation, maintenance and operation of equipment.

Compile and record data relating to projects, tests, investigations. Insure all work is performed in accordance with all standards and specifications.

Use the work management system to locate or request parts, create work requests/work orders and record work histories.

Perform minor welding functions in the installation and maintenance of items, such as fixtures, cable trays, and brackets, etc.

Operate, regulate, adjust and assist with repairing plant equipment such as but not limited to: pumps, motors, valves, ignitors, straining devices, filters, cooling towers, soot, ash, pyrite disposal and electrostatic precipitators.

Inspect, clean and unplug chutes and conveyor systems. Operate and reset emergency trip cords and stops. Assist in the operation of coal conveying equipment including feeders, crackers, scalpers, diverter gates and shut-off gates.

Assist in the repair and maintenance of fire protection system.

Operate, load, unload, move and handle materials, supplies and equipment with hoists, forklift trucks, skid steer loaders, small tractors and automotive equipment.

Request and accept permits to insure that equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged. Assist in installing and removing grounds as directed.

Properly maintain and use hand tools, power tools and test equipment. Keep tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Perform duties in accordance with all federal, state, local and company environmental, safety and health regulations, policies, procedures, rules and practices. Report unsafe conditions, practices, irregularities and abnormal conditions to appropriate supervision.

Complete and learn from job demostrations. Help others to learn. Train for emergency response situations as required.

Assist employees as required and perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Must be able to pass an examination, if required, and in addition:



Must satisfactorily complete, in such time frames as may be established by the company, all required

training to advance to the Control Technician classification, or vacate the Control Technician-Junior

classification.



Must have a two-year Associate Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.



Must have the knowledge and skill necessary to perform work in the installation, inspection, repair,

adjustment, calibration and servicing of instruments and controls.



Must be able to read, interpret and work from simple prints, sketches and specifications.



Must be able to work effectively with other employees and learn to instruct and direct other employees.



Must possess the appropriate State driver's license.



Must obtain and maintain all necessary certification and licenses as required.



Must have a working knowledge of OSHA and Environmental guidelines.



Must have demonstrated the ability to physically and mentally perform work in all areas and heights

required.
