Perform technical and specialized work of a highly skilled and complex nature and direct the work of others in connection with analysis, detection and repair of defects in interlock and control systems, electronic devices, including electronic equipment, computers, solid state communication systems, and instruments, such as: meters, gauges, electrohydraulic turbine control, solid work of an intermediate grade of skill in connection with chemical analyses and calculations related to the operating efficiency of power plant equipment. Assist in engineering studies and calculations related to the operating efficiency of power plant equipment, and assist engineers in performing other technical services. Adjust, repair, maintain and troubleshoot complex electronic equipment such as computer operated boiler controls and turbine computer controls; the complete analog and digital computer systems to the computer termination cabinets using appropriate documentation and various test equipment such as integrated circuit card testers, digital meters, oscilloscope, etc.
Locate and repair defects in complex control systems involving electrical, solid state electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components, using logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams, or control diagrams, along with a thorough knowledge of process control. Perform routine program modifications using a computer interface terminal as directed.
Adjust, repair and calibrate and adjust relays and related circuits, electronic devices, meters, control circuits, communication systems and similar circuits and devices.
Perform mathematical calculations in accordance with established procedures such as those required in determining heat rate.
Analyze test and investigate data; calculate and convert test data to standard values; evaluate data and prepare reports relating to the results of tests and investigations.
Inspect the various component parts of all types of instruments and control systems; make adjustments or replacements to remedy faults in those not functioning properly.
Prepare detailed instructions or sketches for repairs or revisions to controls of all types.
Observe operation of and record readings on controlling, indicating and recording devices and compare with established standards or specifications relating to the equipment's prescribed function, to determine if normal sequence of operations is performed.
Use prints and instruments to locate trouble and make adjustments in equipment such as telemetering, television, and turbo-generator electrohydraulic control systems.
Prepare sketches and take notes in making layouts for installation of equipment, new construction and remodeling of buildings.
Assist in preparing necessary data for engineering procedures, specifications, contracts, bills of material and requisitions for the installation, maintenance and operation of equipment.
Obtain permits and determine that equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged.
Assist in analyzing data such as conductivity recorders, chemical test results, flow charts, flow charts, temperature recorders, etc., as needed in order to maintain proper cycle chemistry.
Evaluate data such as air monitoring, noise levels, chemical test results, flow charts, flow charts SO2 recorders, etc., as needed. Assist in recommending appropriate controls.
Set up and connect testing devices and assist engineers in tests on boilers, turbines, generators, and other power plant equipment; maintain test equipment.
Perform boiler cycle water and scrubber analysis (where required), as directed.
Operate automotive equipment and its associated equipment and perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment.
Prepare and maintain records as required.
Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Perform duties in accordance with Company's safety rules, all applicable environmental and safety rules, operating regulations and practices, and report unsafe conditions and practices.
Train for and carry out assignments in fire fighting, first aid and other emergency response programs as required.
Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
Assist employees as required.
Assist in the training of other employees.
Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision.
Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned. Minimum Requirements Must have performed the duties of, and maintained all the qualifications of the preceding jobs in the Instrument Repairman job family. Must be able to pass examinations and/or demonstrations at each level as determined by the Company, and in addition:
High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.Associate degree in technical or scientific field preferred.
Journey level Requirements
Should have 10,000 hours of power plant experience or equivalent.
Must have sufficient experience in the use of power plant instrumentation to have a thorough working knowledge of process control.
Must have thorough knowledge and expert skills needed to calibrate and adjust plant instruments and controls, and be capable of readily detecting and making repairs to complex control systems.
Must be able to read, interpret and work from complex prints and specifications.
Must have a thorough working knowledge of equipment and clearance procedures and the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work.
Must be able to lead and direct other employees assigned to assist and obtain cooperation and satisfactory work results.
Must possess the appropriate State driver's license.
Must obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses as required.
Must have demonstrated the ability to physically and mentally perform work in all areas and heights required.
Respond to callouts to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.
Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position.
