AREVA is posting this opportunity to identify and consider viable candidates for upcoming Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineers at our various locations in North America. Responsibilities of qualified individuals will include:
  • Assisting with hardware and software design for I&C systems, including all areas of the product lifecycle from specification, design, documentation, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, delivery, training and installation support.
  • Working in a team-based environment to assist other engineers with the design of digital control systems for Nuclear I&C applications, as well as assisting clients in defining system requirements, developing system logic and defining control parameters to satisfy requirements.
  • Preparing documentation such as requirements, test procedures, and will assist senior design engineers during installation and startup of delivered I&C systems.
  • Evaluating design alternatives and resolving complex field problems.
Typical Projects This Group May Work On:
  • Analog and digital module design and repair.
  • PLC based control and data acquisition systems.
  • Design and installation of large digital control systems.
  • Group works with a variety of programming languages, development environments and target platforms.
  • Projects vary from low level uP programming (ANSI C cross compiled to Assembly), to PLC programming (Ladder), to high level programming in the Windows Visual Studio development environment (C, C , VC , VB, C#, SourceSafe).
  • SW development areas include plant control systems such as Control Rod Drive systems, data acquisition systems such as those used in Zero Power Physics Testing and Loose Parts Monitoring, and various plant maintenance support applications (Ice Condenser and Reactor Core Maintenance).
Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) business group focuses on the modernization of critical plant systems to support improved reliability, safety, and extended plant life.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity.
  • Engineer I: BS Electrical or Computer Engineering or related degree plus 0-2 years of engineering experience.
  • Engineer II: BS Electrical or Computer Engineering or related degree plus 2-3 of engineering experience.
  • Fundamental computer skills (Word, Excel)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including technical writing
  • A pro-active approach to problem identification and resolution
  • Ability and attitude to learn a variety of new procedures, processes, and tools, while maintaining various stages of production
  • Ability to work well in a high paced atmosphere
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge in particular field of specialization and has completed significant assignments.
  • Has well-developed leadership qualities.
  • An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.).
  • In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.
  • Works well in a team based development environment.

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.

  • Previous successful Intern/Co-op experience preferred, either within digital I&C design, testing, installation, or operations and maintenance and/or at a nuclear power plant
  • Previous related design experience preferred.
  • Experience integrating software and hardware into a finished product.
  • German and/or French language skills

TRAVEL

Must be willing to travel up to 50% both domestically and internationally and/or relocate as necessary.
