AREVA is seeking an Embedded System Designer. This qualified individual will support the design, test, and field implementation of electrical control systems used by Steam Generator Services and Non Destructive Examination (NDE) services group. Responsibilities include:
  • Evaluate present electrical control system designs and design upgrades and improvements.
  • Generate new electrical control system designs that include:
    • New Circuit design
    • System packaging and wiring
    • Xilinx code development
    • Embedded processor hardware design
    • Motor and position control design
  • Test of both old and new control designs.
  • Documentation of old and new designs including Technical Requirements Documents, test procedures and operating manuals and procedures.
  • Field support of new system designs.
  • Software development using C, and C in the Windows PC and Linux operating system.
Our engineering group designs very specific tooling, electrical controls, and software to be used in the NDE inspection of nuclear power plant components. The designs typically include:
  • Remote robotic manipulators, up to 6 degrees of motion to go into high radiation environments.
  • Remote NDE processes.
  • Remotely controlled audio and video communication, tracking and measurement systems.
  • Process data bases and online status reporting.
  • Process control using 3-D CAD graphics packages.
  • Printed circuit board design incorporating Xilinx FPGA.
  • Closed loop position controls using servo amps and position feedback.
  • Software design and position control using kinematics and reverse kinematics.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Must be conscientious, a team worker and leader.
  • Ability to independently lead projects and tasks from the beginning all the way through to the field implementation.
  • Ability to write procedures and operating instructions.
  • Experience with Xilinx code development, CAD electrical package design.
  • Ability to program in C or C in the windows operating system.
  • Ability to write structured software code that is well commented and clear.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Ability to program in the Linux operating system.
  • Robotic kinematics design experience.
  • Real-time controls programming experience.
  • Embedded processor hardware design.
  • Board level electrical design.
  • VHDL Design.
  • Ability to model in MATLAB.
Travel
Travel is required to support equipment in the field that was designed / programmed by the candidate. Typical travel is 2 to 3 week each spring and each fall at Nuclear power plants which is planned in advance. Some short term (less than one week) sporadic travel required for fixing equipment in the field on an emergency basis.
