Job Description
As the Director for Compliance Monitoring & Policy, you will design and implement a strategy and program to effectively oversee and manage activities surrounding development of and compliance with regulatory requirements of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) as well as mandatory reliability standards adopted at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and applicable Regional Entities. In this role, you will direct development and execution of internal compliance review programs, appropriate filings with FERC, NERC, and the applicable regions and also direct compliance-related activities that establish and maintain relationships and oversee the administration of compliance-related filings. You will provide a focal point for compliance related activities internally as well as at the regional and national levels, provide leadership in industry organizations in the best interest of Xcel Energy, and anticipate and plan for changes in compliance requirements and programs.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop, and ensure effective implementation of a compliance strategy and program that meets Xcel Energy's corporate compliance objectives as well as the needs of the functional units. Direct aspects of company's compliance programs as needed to accomplish corporate objectives.
  • Anticipate and plan for changes in compliance program requirements and structure at the national and regional levels. Develop and oversee effective internal activities relating to anticipation and implementation of program changes.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with FERC, NERC, and the regional entities as well as internal stakeholders to allow for effective achievement of business goals and compliance with reliability-related requirements. Advise Xcel Energy's senior management on compliance-related issues.
  • Direct the work and resources of the staff in the FERC/NERC Compliance Program area. Determine budget and staffing needs for this work unit. Determine the unit's goals and means to achieve. Ensure effective oversight of internal compliance reviews, external compliance reviews and audits, compliance reporting, relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as FERC, NERC, and the regions, and provide support to the functional units.
  • Create and maintain a professional work environment that encourages growth opportunities for compliance program staff.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or Law degree is preferred
Experience
  • 15 years experience in the energy field
  • Must have technical orientation and possess knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), leadership, and management skills
  • Must be proactive, adept at working with regulatory bodies, and capable of making decisions in a rapidly-changing environment.
Preferred Experience
  • 10 years regulatory experience
  • Technical undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • Xcel Energy experience
