NAES Corporation, a leading provider of 3rd party Operations and Maintenance services to the Independent Power Industry, is currently recruiting for the following position: Project Safety Manager GENERAL SUMMARY Represent NAES Corporation on safety related matters and provide specialized safety support to Corporate, Operations Department, and Power Plant organizations. PRIMARY DUTIES Provide ongoing and case-basis safety support to the NAES Safety programs. Coordinate the collection of safety statistical data from assigned plants on a routine basis. Assemble and communicate this data to Corporate for compilation into total company reports. As requested by PPO Division Directors, Project Managers, or Plant Managers, provide plant and/or project-specific safety support. Provide specialized transition support in safety matters as a member of the PPO transition team(s), including site safety assessments and report preparation. For both "Greenfield" and "Transition" projects, provide input and support for the development of the draft plant-specific Safety Manual by the Technical Support Services Department for review and comment by Project personnel and the Plant Staff. Coordinate the review process and develop the final product for Plant Manager approval. Recommend changes to the NAES "standard" Safety Manual based on an on-going review of requirements and assessment of NAES performance. As appropriate serve as the NAES point-of-contact with OSHA for information and support. Serve as a NAES internal safety information resource for plants to call upon from time to time to assist them in their assigned duties. Assess the safety performance of individual plants, "groups" of plants, or the NAES portfolio by both personal observation and by review of reports and evaluations. Based on these assessments, prepare and promulgate "Lessons Learned" and "Best Practices" as appropriate. Review and comment on all PPO facility safety-related incident and accident reports. Conduct routine Safety Conference Calls with plant safety personnel, providing follow-up. Support preparation and conduct of the Plant Safety Supervisor Conference when scheduled. Support and participate in the PPO O&M Supervisor Conference and Plant Manager conference to provide specific safety focus and expertise. Work with all levels of management in the development fostering of an Injury and Incident Free environment. Develop, implement and assess management systems that will drive and sustain the culture that will support this environment. Serve as a technical safety and industrial hygiene expert and resource to all levels of management and employees. Develop and present training on a variety of safety and industrial hygiene topics such as lockout, confined space, fall protection, respirators, hot work and electrical safety, confined space, hearing conservation and air sampling. Carry out additional duties as directed by the Director of Safety. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY This position operates from established and well known procedures performing duties independently under general direction and minimum supervision. Decisions are made within prescribed operating procedures and guidelines. The position encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. This position has partial project budgetary preparation and compliance accountability. Contacts are normally made with others inside and outside the company, with customers, vendors, contractors, other departments, immediate associates and own supervisor. Contacts are usually made on own initiative concerning matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation or approvals. All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customers' needs are being met. SPECIFIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Must have a demonstrated capability to evaluate safety performance; identify potential improvements; develop appropriate actions; and determine/apply "Best Practices" in safety-related areas. Excellent abilities to communicate both orally and in writing, and knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software are required. Experience and comfort in presenting to groups and conducting training Ability to analyze and provide direction and guidance on management systems that affect safety performance. Ability to work with all levels of management and hourly employees I both union and non-union environments EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
WORK CONDITIONS Normal working hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. Work is performed both at a NAES Headquarters office in Houston, Texas and on industrial sites requiring protective clothing and equipment. Extended hours may be required based on specific requirements.
