Job Description
Xcel Energy will be at the North Dakota State University Engineering Expo in Fargo on September 22nd. The manager for this position will be on-site to meet candidates and review resumes for interviews the following day. Preference will be given to candidates attending the Expo. The Co-op will work at the Sherburne County (Sherco) Electrical Generating Plant in Becker, MN (between St. Cloud and Minneapolis, MN). Two full-time Co-op positions are available next year: the first will run from January - August and the second will run from May - December. Position Summary Perform system engineering and project management under the supervision of system engineers. Successful candidates will gain experience with ASME code compliance, practical metallurgy, plant engineering and project/construction management. Also will gain significant professional confidence and people skills through practical field experience and mentoring. 75% of the work will be project engineering and construction management work. 25% of the work will be involved with our pressure vessel maintenance program and will be very materials/repair process related. Minimum Requirements Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering program Sophomore or Junior level. Must be participating in a co-op program at the institution. Must be able to work in a power plant environment (stairs, grating, heights, confined spaces, heat and noise). Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Positive work ethic and good problem solving ability. Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally The applicant must be self-motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and work well with others. Preferred Course work in power generation or project management and an interest in the power industry desirable Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or above) preferred. Prior hands-on equipment experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills/people skills and extracurricular activity involvement highly desired.
