Job Description

 

POWER PLANT MANAGER POSITION

 

 Work is performed in an electric power generation plant environment, and involves working in proximity of high voltage electricity, superheated, high pressure steam, and hazardous chemicals, such as sulfuric acid and ammonia.  The Plant Manager position is located at our Hanford, CA facility which includes a 25 MW fluidized bed boiler power plant burning petroleum coke and a natural gas peaker power plant (2-GE LM 6000’s) along with a natural gas peaker power plant (2-GE LM 6000’s)located in Lemoore, CA.  Future opportunities at this location includes completing combined cycle power plants currently licensed with the California Energy Commission and possible 120 MW solar field (PV) project at the Lemoore site.

 

Responsibilities:

-          Manage the day-to-day operations to include monitoring plant operating performance and ensuring the maintenance of all plant equipment including mechanical, electrical, and instruments and controls.

-          Ensure the plant operates efficiently on a daily basis paying close attention to:

  • Power Plant Output
  • Maintain High Contract Availability on Peakers
  • Maximize Ancillary Services on Peakers
  • Insure sorbent utilization is maximized and co-product quality is acceptable for customers
  • Water Chemistry is sufficiently maintained

-           Maintains the safe and efficient operation of the plants on a continuous 24-hour schedule, 7 days a week.  Works through plant operators and maintenance personnel to maximize efficiencies and production.

-          With support from Corporate HR, administers all human resources issues, including staff development, staff recruitment, and performance management.  Ensures the appropriate training and development of assigned plant employees.  Conducts annual performance evaluations in a constructive, objective, and accurate manner to identify subordinate strengths and developmental areas and discusses career goals.  Work with corporate office to develop and improve company policies and procedures. 

-          Responsible for controlling costs at the plant level including consumables, maintenance and the management of overtime. 

-          Work with corporate office to develops and maintains start-up, shutdown, normal, abnormal, and emergency operating procedures; maintains required records and reports.

 -          Responsible for ensuring the plants maintain compliance with all permit conditions, environmental health and safety programs, local laws, ordinances and standards.  Directly interfaces with representatives of regulatory agencies and corporate environmental groups.

-          Ability to develop, justify and recommend capital projects for plant enhancements and optimizations.

 -          Responsible for completion of required reports and other duties as directed by the Director of Operations.

 

Qualifications:

 

-          Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in power plants or similar field.  Working knowledge of Power Plant operations and safety requirements.  Familiarity with operations and maintenance of GE LM 6000’s and steam turbines.

 -          Excellent leadership, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills. 

-          Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure and be able to work with all levels within the GWF organization.

-          Excellent computer skills: MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), PI, IMaint and other plant software packages

-          Effective time and resource management skills – planning, administrative, and organizational skills.

-          Experience with project management responsibilities, including schedule integration, activity implementation, and post event evaluation

-          Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as measurements, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Ability to understand and effectively use various electrical related formulas.

-          Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
