Job Description

NAES Corporation, a leading provider of 3rd party O&M services to the Independent Power Industry, is currently recruiting for the following position:

Located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Bridgeport Energy Facility is a nominal 490 MW combined-cycle electric generating facility. The plant features two Siemens V84.3 combustion turbines and one Siemens steam turbine generator.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Lead Production Technician is responsible for managing the daily operations of the plant.  Directs the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifies those areas which may need improvement or further development. The Lead Production Technician assures that the plant is providing the highest value for the Owner.  Ensures that the facility is operating safely and within environmental and reliability compliance guidelines.  Will implement the Performance Program as it relates to the Production area.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Direct and coach Plant Operators to meet dispatch outputs at the highest value to the Owner, safely, and incompliance with all regulatory requirements.

Determine if the electrical outputs were maximized relative to the dispatch.

Oversee all operational activities and activities that affect operations during shift operations.

Report abnormal or emergency plant conditions to the Production Manager and/or the Plant Manager as soon as possible following the appropriate handling of the emergency.  Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Production Manager and/or Plant Manager.

Oversee water chemistry program, including but not limited to, testing results, logging of test information, chemical treatment and treatment adjustments, and any problems that arise in the water program.

Refer Human Resources and Collective Bargaining Agreement issues to the Production Manager as soon as possible, including all available information.

Provide guidance to the Maintenance Manager and/or maintenance employee relative to equipment conditions and required maintenance activities.

Oversee the maintenance of the Environmental QA/QC Manual and ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements.  Report environmental incidents and near misses to the EHS Coordinator, Production Manager, and/or Plant Manager as necessary following the appropriate handling of any emergency situation.

Oversee the training of Plant Operators and maintain the plant Training Manual for the Operations department.

Prepare required reports for the Owner, ISO-NE and/or NPCC.

Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records.

Maintain the plant Operations Manuals and assure that operating policies and procedures are followed and kept up-to-date.

Provide a positive impact to the facility morale.  Provide positive motivation for Plant Operators and handle employee concerns as they arise.

Complete other tasks as requested by the Production Manager or the Plant Manager.

Assist with the screening and hiring of operating personnel as requested by the Production Manager.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Lead Production Technician operates from established procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints. Encounters new and varied work situations and utilizes procedures, policies, knowledge, and experience to supervise those occurrences keeping the Production Manager well informed.

The Lead Production Technician must ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits and regulatory requirements at all times.  Must effectively communicate information to the Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, peers, and subordinates, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement. The Lead Production Technician must ensure duties are performed maximizing the value to the Owner.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Lead Production Technician reports to the Production Manager.  Supervises and coaches the Plant Operator.   Cooperates with the Maintenance Manager, maintenance employees, the EHS Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant as needed in the daily operation of the plant.  As necessary, reports critical information directly to the Plant Manager.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical requirements include:  possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.  Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).  Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Position requires extended working hours.   Will be required to periodically work during off shifts, weekends, or holidays, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions.   Will occasionally be required to be "On call" as assigned by the Production Manager.

This position will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program.  This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening.  There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of power plant or similar experience required.
  • Three or more years of combined cycle experience. 
  • Formal training, e.g. Bachelor, Associate, or equivalent degree highly desirable. 
  • Gas turbine operations experience highly desirable.
  • At least 2 years experience supervising craft employees highly desired.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
