The Senior Engineer, Power Design – P&C will direct and lead all design and estimating work and develop standards and specifications for Protection and Control (P & C) systems.

Responsibilities


  • Provide Power Department's input into the design of all Capital Projects involved with Power Department facilities.
  • Direct and manage various simulations and studies performed by third parties pertaining to protective relay coordination and power system reliability.
  • Provide design, direction review and diagnostic input to all substation related relay coordination projects.
  • Establish, direct and manage various administrative and engineering procedures, and systems to archive, distribute, review and revise electronic files for microprocessor based control systems.
  • Provide technical support to field forces on cutover, testing and troubleshooting of various relay protection & control systems.
  • Engineering design shall include software changes to microprocessor-based systems currently used within the department (protective relays, PLC's, SCADA & metering).
  • Establish standard P&C schemes for various types of systems used in the Electric Traction and Power distribution systems.
  • Ensure that all projects, internal, external, capital new or operations in service adhere to same standards through careful design review and comment.
  • Develop and implement standards for supervisory control (SCADA) system interface to various power substation and control systems.



Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 (four) years experience in a traction power or utility related position.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD 2009 computer software or comparable.
  • Strong knowledge of Load Flow/Fault calculation software (SKM or equivalent).
  • Project management skills to develop project scope, progress, schedules and budget. Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and/or comparable applications.
  • Familiarity with Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, and/or comparable systems.
  • Must have valid drivers license.
  • Strong planning skills with working knowledge of budget, labor relations and human resources.
  • Must be available 24 hours/7 days a week.
  • Proficiency in SKM Power Tools Software (Captor, Dapper and Arc Flash Evaluation) preferred.



This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to toxicological testing.
